Shannon Powe-Saunders
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Pennsylvania with over 18 years of experience in the helping profession. I began my career as a Mental Health/Substance Use Case Manager, where I linked individuals who were diagnosed with a mental health or substance use disorder to needed resources in their community. After completing my masters degree in Community Counseling, I began to counsel various individuals and families who experienced issues with: depression, anxiety, bipolar, grief, trauma, relationship issues, parenting problems, substance use/dependency and other life issues and events. I am a warm, relatable person who believes that each person is currently on their own life's journey. During that journey we experience things that can be pleasant as well as things that can be painful. Therapy/counseling can help serve as a guide to help us navigate those unpleasant moments and painful experiences. Respect and empathy are my guiding principles. Hi, I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) and a certified advanced alcohol and drug counselor (CAADC) in Pennsylvania with 36 years of professional work experience. I have worked extensively with helping clients and their families, with issues around chemical use disorders, behavioral addictions, personality disorders and mental health issues. I tend toward having a more directive style of therapy but I also have experience with non directive styles as well. I am certified in Cognitive Processing Therapy for the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and have 16 years experience working with Exposure Therapy to resolve trauma reactions that disrupt healthy living and contribute to depression and anxiety. I enjoy working with couples and families to explore and resolve family dynamics, parenting and relationship issues that disrupt connections needed for unity and stability. Hello and thank you for taking this first step . I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 10 years of experience as a therapist and nearly 20 years of experience as a social worker. Therapy is a journey that will help you explore the feelings you are having and maybe even figure out where they came from. Our feelings can be so hard to understand that we often just "deal with it". While that may provide some temporary relief, it does not give you any sense of direction. It's important to understand that your feelings are important, meaningful, and valid. They are your feelings and you are entitled to them without judgement from others. You can even feel them without feeling bad about feeling bad! Believe it or not, its ok to not be ok. I think it is helpful to think of therapy in terms of the old cliché about leading a horse to water but being unable to make the horse drink. This therapeutic relationship is ours to build. I can get you to the water, but when you get there, if you don't want to drink, you won't drink.
