I have worked for several public agencies providing social work services, school-based mental health services, community mental health services, & now private practice. I work with clients affected by depression, anxiety, trauma and relationship challenges. I was born & raised in Charleston, South Carolina. I received my undergraduate degree in Sociology at Newberry College in Newberry, South Carolina & a Masters degree in Counseling at Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri. My theoretical orientation is eclectic, as I integrate various techniques to benefit each individual client. The majority of my work has focused on working with people experiencing anxiety, depression, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, oppositional disorder, and family/relationship issues. My areas of practice/specialization are Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma Focused-CBT, & Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. Outside of my work as a therapist, I enjoy spending time with my husband & family, exercising, reading, & traveling.

Life gets difficult and unmanageable at times. Although it may be difficult to ask for help, know you don't have to work through it alone! I seek to provide compassion and empathy for my clients as they disclose personal and vulnerable struggles. Through that caring, therapeutic relationship, I aim to walk alongside clients and help them identify and work through their current needs. Whether you are struggling with more internal stressors like depression and/or anxiety, or you're struggling with relational conflict, I am here to help you get through it and grow from it! I have specialized training in Couples/Marriage Therapy and also with adolescents and their families. I have experience and a heart for helping adolescents and young adults dealing with depression, anxiety, and/or relational issues with peers. I also have a passion for helping couples and families build more healthy relational patterns.

Life is full of challenging experiences … and people! We all need an encouraging mentor to listen and guide us toward our goals. Family and friends may mean well, but unfortunately they usually have their own agenda, criticize without understanding, and offer advice that is best for them- not you. I bet this is happening to you right now. This is just a natural way with untrained people. Let me empower you! Let’s get you on track to where you want to go. We’ll have fun and maybe share some tears along the way. Managing your stress, anxiety, and depression is our goal. You may be in a difficult or strained relationship that leaves you drained and even sucks the life out of you. No wonder you are tired! Just like the hundreds of other clients I have helped to return joy to their lives, I offer 25 years of professional experience. You can do this! Start right now and sign up for your session with me. We’ll even laugh a little! You need this and don’t want to be stuck in this place, do you? Let’s talk now! Marie Duncan, Ed.S., LMFT
