Greetings! I am a licensed clinical social worker in the states of North and South Carolina. I have been licensed for 13 years during this time I have provided therapy services to youth, adults and families in office, community and home settings. The modalities I tend to use consist of solution focused brief therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, reality therapy and person centered modalities. Prior to becoming licensed I worked as a family preservation counselor and a youth residential counselor. I have an extensive background in family work including parent education. I pride myself in being an honest direct yet empathic clinician who believes despite therapy being a difficult and sometimes uncomfortable decision it should be an enlightening and awakening experience.

Dr. Donald Strauss
I have had the opportunity to practice with clients with a wide variety of issues. In recent years my primary focus has been with clients with deteriorative neurodegenerative disorders( ALS and MS) life altering burns, bipolar disorders and chronic mental health issues. In addition I have treated helping professionals suffering from compassion fatigue. I have a MSW from Florida State University and a Ph.D from The University of Maryland in Clinical Social work. I am a member of the Academy of Clinical SocialWork( ACSW) and a Board Certified Diplomat in Social Work(BCD). My primary treatment modalities are Cognitive Behavioral, Behavioral Health Intervention guided by Evidence Based findings. I employ a process that provides alternatives to life approaches and strategies that no longer serve the individual by offering new ways to address life issues within the safety of a helping relationship. The approach includes problem solving and adopting new cognitive approaches to guide thoughts, feelings and behaviors. Evidence-Based generated findings add specific interventions that are productive in helping with issue resolution.

There are times when our past can creep up into our present and take charge. Doing the best we can with the skills we have, we attempt to triumph over pain, heartache, trauma, fears, etc. However, there are times when we feel broken no matter how hard we try to put the pieces back together. Although we cannot change the past, we can put the pieces back together and still be beautiful; different yet beautiful. I like to think of therapy like the art of kintsugi, putting our broken pieces back together with a gold bond. I hope to offer you a space to process thoughts and to add to your current toolbox of coping skills. Practicing since 2010, I am trained in various evidenced based practices. I believe that treatment needs to be individualized in order to focus on the whole of the person (the individual and the systems (i.e., family, peers, etc.) that surround that person). There is a passion to provide a service to those who are in need and desire to be a willing participant in their wellbeing. I hope to be a service where you feel that you can heal, grow and learn.

My sessions are all scheduled for 45 minutes unless otherwise requested. If you feel like you need more time - please reach out so that arrangements can be made for you. NO SHOW POLICY: At the ten minute mark of your scheduled session, your appointment will be marked as a no-show unless you have reached out to me and we have agreed to start the session later. If you're reaching out to a therapist, you're needing something better in your life. You're not willing to go on the way things are, and you have the hope and determination that things can and must change. You need someone who can help you achieve that change. You don't need someone who will just tell you what you want to hear, or who will listen but not know what to do. You need someone who has the ability to get you to that better place in your life. I have the training, compassion, and experience to help you get there. For couples, I'm trained in Gottman Couples Therapy and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy. These are two of the best-researched, most effective couples therapy methods out there, and I have seen beautiful results in my clients. I also see many individuals, as well as families. I've also been there. I know what depression feels like, and I've struggled with a difficult marriage and divorce. I've been to therapy myself, learned a lot, done the work, and have gotten to my own better place. My passion and my reason for becoming a therapist is to help others benefit from what I've learned. My training has given me the skills to do that. I won't judge you, and you won't hear, "Well, just get over it!" from me. If you want Christian counseling, let me know. If you prefer non-religious therapy, I am comfortable with that as well. Either way, you will have my full attention and my best effort.

I have also been trained in and provided Animal Assisted and Equine Assisted Therapy. I am a firm believer that animals and nature are healers. My approach involves meeting clients where they are and developing a plan based on individual needs with a theoretical base of Adlerian concepts. Parenting Support is another passion of mine. Parenting can be hard! Children do not come with a manual. I can assist with parenting techniques and therapy to improve familial relationships. I am also trained in Divorce Mediation and Parenting Coordination and provide coaching related to the difficulty of these life changes. I can assist with helping your children cope as well. I work with adults on issues such as anxiety, trauma, mood disorders, depression, among others. I believe I provide a refreshing, caring approach and look forward to our journey together.
