Menzo Faassen
Hi, my name is Menzo Faassen. I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Tennessee and New Mexico. I received my B.S. in Psychology in 1999 from Middle Tennessee State University and I received my M.S. in Community Counseling from Austin Peay State University in 2009. I work full time in Richmond, Virginia (moved here in January of 2022). I am working for a community mental health center as a therapist. I have worked in community mental health and addiction treatment centers since 2007. I have worked with adults and teenagers with trauma, addiction, depression, grief/loss and LGBT issues. I am also a proud member of the LGBT community. My approach to therapy starts out with the basic Rogerian (person centered approach). But, I also incorporate Psycho dramatic techniques (but I can only do this in a video session) into my approach. Psychodrama is a combination of counseling and theater and is often referred to as Shakespearean Psychology. I start where you are. I believe that you are the expert on you and that this is your therapy not mine. So I will tailor my approach and style to what your goal (not my goal) is. I can be as directive as you need. I can function well dealing with thoughts and emotions, looking for solutions, and even a look into reality. A few things to be aware of: 1. While you can send messages to me 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, you may not get an immediate response. Depending on what time you sign up, I could be sleeping, eating, or working with another client. I do respond within 24 hours of getting a new client and often will respond sooner, but you will probably not get an instant response from me. Bear in mind that I do have a full time job that I work during the day. I am not able to respond between the hours of 8 AM and 6 PM (Eastern Standard Time in the US). Please be patient with this. 2. Prior to beginning therapy I request that you send me your home address and phone number. If you prefer you can send a copy of a photo ID. I request this information for a few reasons. The first is so that if there is an emergency (you present with a plan to hurt yourself or somebody else, or I suspect there is child abuse involved) I can alert the authorities in your location. It is also my ethical duty to assure that I am licensed to provide services in the state you reside. 3. Sending messages back and forth is fine, but you will get more value out of BetterHelp if you schedule a live chat, phone or video session with me. You can do that by selecting the schedule session on the right hand side of the screen. 4. It helps to have a goal in therapy, so one question that I will ask is "what do you want to get out of therapy" or "what brought you to therapy". I only ask so we have a direction to go. 5. The more information I have about you the better. So, in way of introduction, some things you may want to share include (your childhood information, any traumatic events, previous relationships, current relationships, work history, family background/relationships, your previous therapy experience, etc.). In other words, use the first message to give me the autobiography of you. I have been in counseling myself and know how scary it can be to enter into the process and I try to make this as comfortable as possible. I look forward to walking with you as you begin this journey of healing and transformation.

One of my beloved aspects of being a therapist is having conversations about life helping my clients to grow into their full potential. I create a safe environment for clients to share intimate moments of their life they have never disclosed prior. My approaches include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Psycho-education, Existentialism, and Motivational Interviewing. My range of experience includes phase of life issues, parenting, trauma, anxiety, depression, addictions work, mood disorders, career issues, life coaching aspects, infertility issues, and many other areas of mental health development. I am sensitive to the needs of the LGBTQIA community and family conflict issues.
Kim Padula
I have been licensed and practicing since 1995. I studied psychology as an undergraduate at Vanderbilt University. I got my masters in Clinical Social Work with the intention of becoming a therapist. I have a strength based perspective and believe it is important to recognize strengths as well as vulnerabilities. We are all imperfect and we are all survivors. I think the benefits of therapy are perspective, accountability, support and growth. Hopefully, therapy goes beyond insight and self awareness to include a sense of choice in how we respond to the challenges of life. My techniques are grounded in well established and proven approaches and the process is very much a team effort. At the outset we'll review your history focusing on the experiences and relationships that have affected you. We'll identify your objectives and map out a plan and focus for our work which we'll review and maybe revise periodically. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

I defined personal values decades ago that have served as beacons in my life, both professionally and privately. Growth, integrity, vision, excellence and service are the principles that are bedrock to all of the choices I make as a psychotherapist. My approach is one that empathetically seeks to empower individuals by encouraging participation and ownership of responsibility, and instilling confidence and determination in attaining treatment goals, all within a safe, non-judgmental setting. I have worked in both medical and clinical settings serving adults, veterans, and families with issues including post-traumatic stress, grief, depression and anxiety, and addiction. As a retired military veteran, I bring a worldly perspective to my practice using an eclectic approach focused on the individual. I look forward to being of service to you in your wellness journey.

Welcome to my profile. I am glad you are here. First, I want to tell you a little bit about myself to help you decide if I am a good fit for you. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Tennessee with 10 years of experience as a therapist. I know life can be scary and overwhelming at times. I am here to walk alongside you as you bravely face stress, anxiety, depression, trauma or anger issues. I believe that together we can start an exciting journey of tapping into the many strengths that will help you become the person you want to be. That means that perhaps you want to happier, more confident, more at peace with your past, and an overcomer. It is okay to be brave and scared at the same time. It takes courage to seek out a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. I am here to support & empower you in that journey. In my therapeutic approach I believe that it is important to focus on what you can control as opposed to what you can't control in your life. What you think about yourself and others is very powerful and these thoughts can affect your emotions and actions. I have also seen great changes from using expressive therapies, such as sandtray and drawings but "talk therapy" is a great tool of change as well. I am a Registered Play Therapist- Supervisor, Certified Parent-Child Interaction Therapist and Within Agency Trainer (excellent for childhood behavioral issues). I have received trainings in Theraplay (caregiver-child attachment based therapy) and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I received my Master's in Counseling from East Tennessee State University in 2013. I cannot wait to meet you and start this exciting process of change with you toward the life you want.

My hope is to meet with clients who find themselves scrambling for health and wholeness and whatever that means to them. I believe there is immense power in feeling safe and known and that our wounds and victories both impact our thought processes, relationships, emotions, and behaviors. In life transitions, relational difficulties, and personal struggles, I aim to be an agent of hope and compassion that moves clients towards greater awareness and confidence, and away from self-defeating processes of shame and feelings of unworthiness. As a result, the health of body, mind, soul, and relationships improves. I am licensed in Tennessee with 5 years of professional work experience. I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, relationship issues, family conflicts, & trauma and abuse. I have training in the Internal Family Systems approach to therapy, I am EMDR trained (trauma therapy), and I practice an experiential approach to therapy with couples, families, and individuals. With couples, I utilize Emotionally Focused Therapy, a research-validated approach to healing and strengthening couples’ relationships and emotional connection. I am profoundly grateful when clients allow me into the sacred truths of their inner worlds, into their not-so-curated stories of joy and pain. I believe that YOU are the expert on your own journey and I would consider it an honor to be invited into your unique story and to help you move toward greater health and healing in your life and relationships.

Therapy with a licensed counselor is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. An experienced clinician can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients.
