Clients don’t come to me with their problems- they come to me with solutions that have not been working and/or not working as well as expected. Research indicates that a key factor in effective therapy and the client accomplishing their therapeutic goals, is the working relationship between the client and therapist. I will do whatever is I can to hold up my end of the bargain, accommodate your needs/wants and make this process as stress free (and enjoyable) as possible. At this point of the bio I can start throwing out many different treatment modalities that I use, explain my theoretical framework or use catchy phrases like 'unconditional positive regard, client centered treatment' however, I find that to be effective in my role I need to explain things in ways that they can easily be understood. I imagine that we all have an invisible bucket we carry around with us on a daily basis. Sometimes we add things (stressors) to our bucket and sometimes those around us dump some of their things in our bucket also. When our bucket has become overfilled, this is when problems begin to develop in our day to day lives. My goal is to give you a safe place to empty your overflowing bucket and learn ways to keep it from getting overfilled. We will explore your issues, help you to articulate what you're feeling/thinking and strategize on how to make meaningful, lasting change (as a bonus, I might even make you crack a smile or laugh on occasion.) Being human, it is hardwired in us to seek comfort and predictability. We gravitate to what is familiar. It is not an easy thing to actively work against that hardwiring, choosing to take effective action rather than maintaining status quo. The personal growth and insight that can occur from our sessions is much like learning and preparing to do a backflip for the first time. It is not easy but it is simple. So are you ready to learn to do backflips?

Kara Fedore
My name is Kara and I am so excited for the opportunity to work with you! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Tennessee. I have 7 years of experience working with a variety of individuals experiencing concerns such as substance abuse, depression, anxiety, self esteem, life changes and transitions, and relationship challenges. I have also worked with many people who have experienced domestic violence, trauma, and acute crisis. I use a wide variety of approaches with clients, all of which come down to being client centered. I tailor my approach to each person I work with, using primarily a combination of elements of EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. I am always growing, learning, and adapting my approaches to be the best therapist that I can be. It has taken so much courage to even get to this point in your journey of self improvement and discovery, applaud yourself for that! The idea of going to therapy can be scary and it keeps a lot of people away. I like to think of going to therapy as a scheduled time in your week to invest in yourself - it doesn't mean that something is wrong with you. Rather, coming to therapy means something is RIGHT with you. You are taking control of your life, admitting that things could be going better, and making steps to achieve your goals. It's okay if you don't know where to start - we can figure it out together. I hope to walk with you and empower you on your new journey. I am looking forward to getting to know you!
