Hi Friend, This is a little about me. First and foremost I am a regular and down-to-earth guy. At times Counseling professionals and other helping professionals can can get reputations to "high and mighty", "up on a pedestal", or 'holier than thou". I am a regular 40 year old man who is balding and slightly overweight. I have made mistakes in my life as I'm sure you have. I do not have a magic wand to make your life better in a hurry. What I do have is an open ear, a caring heart, a good education, and about 15 years in counseling a wide variety of people and issues. Of these the most common issues I have helped others with are overcoming symptoms of depression, anxiety, addiction, and common family issues. As I mentioned earlier there is no magic to what I do but we can work toward goals and talk it out.

I am a graduate of Texas Woman's University where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a graduate of Amberton University where I've earned Master of Arts in Professional Counseling and Marriage and Family Therapy. I have additionally earned a license in Chemical dependency as I have learned many struggle with addictions that contribute to challenges in their lives and I am here to help. I believe therapy is a process of meeting people where they are and helping them navigate the path to where they want to be. You can expect a thoughtful and collaborative approach that is tailored to your specific needs while valuing your autonomy. My integrative style involves clarifying what gives your life meaning and purpose, compassionate curiosity of yourself and your most important relationships. My goal is to encourage you to cultivate skills to help you make lasting changes to live a fulfilling life. Together, we will create an environment of mutual trust, respect and safety that honors the complexity of your unique human experience and salient identities. As we work together you will learn to take delight in your strengths and to tolerate and accommodate your weaknesses. Along the way, uncomfortable symptoms of anxiety, sadness, feeling stuck, over-using substances and other problems will improve. My commitment to and belief in personal autonomy means I won’t tell you what to do-which would presume that I know what is right for you-but will instead guide you on your own path of self-discovery.

I believe that true healing comes from addressing the whole person; mind, body and soul. I utilize client centered interventions to develop a therapeutic alliance, that meets you where you are and work with you to develop a client invested treatment plan. I structure my counseling style to include educational components to help you understand the why. The treatment approaches I ascribe to are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Solution Focused (Brief) Therapy. I find it helpful to participate in video sessions so that we can get to know each other better. However, I am also available to you via phone if that is more comfortable for you. My availability is in the evenings and on Saturday mornings, I check messages everyday except Sunday. I am licensed by the state of Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor and have been providing clinical services for eighteen years. I received my Master’s Degree in Community Counseling from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois. I have been in counseling for over 40 years while starting out in the church setting. I became a licensed professional counselor about 17 years ago in order to specialize in certain types of counseling. For the past fifteen years, I have been handling Child Protective Services cases. These have involved family dysfunction, addiction, and abuse of different types. I continue to do religious counseling for people searching for spiritual meaning in life. I have undergraduate and graduate degrees in theology. I also have a professional counseling degree in psychology. I was a senior pastor of a evangelical church for forty-three years. I have seen the best and worst in people. I have also seen it in myself. I believe that all people have a positive and successful self. It may take some time to find that person within someone, but it is well worth the search. I use Cognitive-Behavioral therapy as well as Rogerian therapy. Carl Rogers believed that all people deserved to be treated with respect and compassion. I care personally for the clients that I see and invest myself in their wellness.

There is not a specific type of therapeutic style or approach that works for everyone: age, ethnicity, all this may play a part in stressors and how we cope with them. Therefore, the services are built around the individuals' or families' needs, focusing on strengths and values. I believe there is nothing we can’t overcome and the first step is seeking help. Therapy is about acquiring the tools we need when faced with adversity. If you’re reading this, then you’re already on your way to change. Life is full of challenges, struggles, and stressful situations. I have worked with children, teens, and adults with a variety of problems like families involved with CPS, parenting skills, mental illness, addiction treatment for individuals & their families, unemployed individuals (career counseling), depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, anger issues, bullying, marital problems, self-injury, abuse, grief, & many more. I speak Spanish, and those families that would like to have the sessions in the language they feel more comfortable when seeking help.
