I am a licensed professional counselor and I am also a licensed chemical dependency counselor. I started in the field working with clients who are chemically dependent and did this for several years. I am currently working for a mental health authority completing assessments and giving preliminary diagnoses to clients with mental health disorders who are seeking treatment. I have been doing this for about four years now. I have worked with clients with severe trauma, depression, anxiety, the list is endless. I have also helped clients in crises. I like to utilize cognitive behavioral therapy a lot in counseling. Some other modalities that I like to use are solution-focused brief therapy and Gestalt therapy. Counseling is dependent upon the individual, though, and it is important to assess the person's needs according to the problems that are presented. I have primarily worked with adults throughout my time in counseling and have learned that is important to be very genuine with people. I would describe my counseling style as genuine but gentle. Counseling does require work in order to achieve the desired change. I am willing to help with that and I look forward to hearing from you.

LILIANA PALACIOS
Hi! My name is Liliana Palacios, and I want to tell you that I've spent the last 18 years helping people from all walks of life through their troubles and successes, being their cheerleader and advisor through thick and thin alike. I am originally from Mexico City and lived there until I was 24. There, I went to college and earned a BS in Organizational Psychology. Moving to the United States as a young mother, I decided to focus my energy and efforts on being a mother to my two girls, but that didn't stop me from pursuing and earning my MA in Professional Counseling. While being a stay-at-home mom, I volunteered for several years at the local Mental Health Mental Retardation agency and as a crisis line phone volunteer with Contact Crisis Line. After finishing my education and becoming independently licensed, I started working with parents and children who had suffered abuse and women victims of domestic violence. Some of the issues that I have expertise in are relationship violence, childhood sexual abuse, sexual abuse, depression, anxiety, drug and alcohol abuse, marital problems, parenting coaching and training, delinquency in youth, and problems of childhood and adolescence. I have also facilitated domestic violence support groups for Hispanic victims and parenting classes in Spanish for parents of children and adolescents. Over the past 14 years, I have focused my work on advocating, assisting, and guiding parents of children on the autism spectrum in looking for services and support for themselves or their children. Previously, I worked closely with caregivers of elderly or ill loved ones during all the stages of caregiving and end-of-life concerns. I am a nationally certified counselor and clinical trauma professional, and I have trained extensively in grief counseling and therapeutics. Now, I believe that no matter how many fancy titles and certificates one might have, the success of a therapeutic relationship depends a lot on finding the right person for your current situation. I like to be warm, supportive, friendly, and open. Still, I will not sugarcoat or hesitate to tell my clients when I feel they are doing something that can bring them trouble or hurt them more than help. Therapy is a process of self-discovery, finding our inner strengths, and learning how to be happy, fulfilled, whole, and fully present for ourselves and our loved ones. I hope we have a chance to get to work together to get you to where you want and deserve to be! In good health, Liliana "It's not the load that breaks you down. It's how you carry it". Lena Thorne

I see counseling as a process in which you and I having come to understand and trust one another, work as a team to explore and define present problem situations, develop future goals for an improved life, and work in a systematic fashion toward realizing those goals. I approach counseling from a cognitive behavioral perspective in that patterns of thoughts and actions are explored in order to better understand the clients' problems and to develop solutions. I work with clients in a variety of formats, including individually, as couples and as families. I also conduct group therapy. I have counseled clients of varying ages and in both school and clinical settings working together toward a desired positive outcome. I have worked to improve the lives of people since 2002, first as a teacher, later as a counselor. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Louisiana and Texas. I graduated in 1979 from Louisiana State University in Shreveport, Louisiana. After twenty-four years in the corporate world , I received my alternative teacher certification from Grambling State University. I earned a master’s in counseling from Louisiana Tech University in 2012, and a Master of Education in 2016. I also have an Educational Leadership Certification, a Louisiana and Texas Licensed Professional Counselor’s certification, and a National Certified Counselor certification. I've also worked for the Louisiana Department of Education as a Science Teacher Leader Advisor Instructional Materials Reviewer. It takes courage to seek a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards change. If you are ready to take that step, I am here to support and empower you. I often reflect back to the period of time when I decided to enter the field of psychology and counseling. There were many life challenges along the way that extended a hand in my decision to pursue a career in the world of behavioral health. I have spent the last 21 years growing as a therapist in my work with adults dealing with stress and anxiety, depression, addiction recovery, trauma and abuse, relationship or family issues, conflict resolution, and adjustment to life changing events. My professional experiences in outpatient and inpatient settings have seasoned me in most behavioral health conditions, to include crisis assessment, intervention, and stabilization. Despite these experiences, I embrace the importance in malleability of mind and perspective. I remain as much a student today as I was one to two decades ago and have resigned to the conception of life-long learning and personal growth. My Approach Feeling emotionally imbalanced can often feel frightening and overwhelming, worsened by the notion that you are going at it alone. My approach is action-oriented, thought challenging, but reliably embraced with humility, empathy, compassion, and a human level connection. As a therapist, I do believe that there is much to be said on the art of motivation. There is even more to be said on inspirational influence and forming an alliance with purposefulness. Through an integrated and holistic approach to care, my hope is to help you find peace in accepting the things you cannot change; the inspiration, motivation, and courage to change the things that you can; and the insight to understand this difference. Being a part of someone else's healing process, or "search for meaning" is an extraordinary experience and certainly a privilege.

As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Texas, I have spent over 12 years helping adults navigate anxiety, trauma, PTSD, and betrayal. My commitment to respectful and attentive care stems from witnessing the shortcomings of managed healthcare, particularly within the VA system. As a retired disabled veteran, I possess firsthand insight into the challenges faced by veterans and first responders. My work focuses on helping individuals and couples process trauma, infidelity, and significant life transitions. I employ evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to challenge negative thinking patterns, Trauma-Focused Therapy to assist clients in working through past experiences, Attachment-Based Therapy to explore relational dynamics, and Mindfulness to help regulate inappropriate thoughts, feelings, and emotions. I strive to create a safe and supportive environment where clients feel heard and respected.
