I've been a professional counselor for over 31 years working at several very interesting locations during my career. I spent over 12 years at the National Institutes of health serving a wide spectrum of clients from some of the leading health researchers in the world to the hardworking staff workers from executive administrators to cafeteria custodians. I was the senior staff EAP representative and crisis counselor during the attack on the Pentagon on 9/11/2001, the anthrax attack in Washington D.C. two weeks later and the D.C. Sniper about a year later. Subsequently I gained a tremendous amount of first line experience assisting people with stress and trauma as well as the milieu of issues facing any employee of such a large institution. After a 12 year stint at the NIH I was recruited to work with DOD and the United States military around the country assisting soldiers and their families with the complicated relationship and individual stress brought about by multiple combat deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan and other areas on conflict in the world. My experiences have given me a tremendous amount of training and skills honing toward helping people deal with a multitude of issues. I know how difficult it can be to ask for help and I applaud you for your courage in coming to this site to seek a solution to issues in life which can indeed be challenging. I look forward to working along with you on your journey of change and personal improvement. My style is relaxed and accepting with the aim of providing my client a safe and non-judgmental venue with which to explore their current situation. My approaches are somewhat eclectic using motivational interviewing to center on specific areas of conflict or distress and applying various modes of cognitive behavioral therapy to help effect change . Areas of Expertise: Stress Management Processing Trauma Grief and Loss The Navigation of sudden change, both personal and professional/vocational Generalized and Specific Anxiety

Awareness. It is often what is missing when you are feeling overwhelmed, out of control, or trapped by negative patterns in your life. I will work with you to help you grow your awareness, to understand the factors within yourself, others, and the world around you that are contributing to your unhelpful thoughts, feelings, and actions. By collaborating together to reveal these hidden factors, we will bring processes and tools into sessions that are useful for helping you to set goals that move you toward greater balance in your life. In addition to my MS in Counseling from the University of North Texas, my earlier education obtaining my BA in Social Sciences from UNT strongly influenced my cultural and community focused approach with clients. I identify as an ally for communities who can sometimes have difficulty finding safe, non-judgmental therapeutic resources, such as those with concerns with LGBTQIA identity, sexual health, and alternative or ethical non-monogamous relationships. As someone who has learned to achieve while living with ADHD, and who has long been a social ally against oppression, I can appreciate what it is to struggle in situations that seem stacked against you. In every relationship I strive to be a resource to the voiceless, the misunderstood, and anyone who might hesitate to get help out of fear of judgement. Additional specialized skills I can bring into sessions when appropriate include meditation, dream analysis, creative art, transpersonal analysis, socratic dialogue, and positive habit reinforcement.

Everyone has a story to tell. Whether it be long or short. It is your story. As a Licensed Professional Counselor with board certification and Master Certified Health Coach, I want to hear your story. Why? Because it is your story and you deserve to tell it. Your story could be about happiness, love, hurt, anger, stress, anxiety, depression, life transitions and grief just to name a few. Sometimes all anyone wants to do is tell someone caring and compassionate their perspective regarding their story. As a therapist, I believe in giving everyone I meet a clean, unbiased slate. No judgment here. I will use a holistic (mind and body), open-minded and solution-focused approach in assisting anyone in telling their story, processing the events and moving forward with their life goals. I will support and at times coach you on practical ways to build tools to help you navigate this thing we call life. My purpose is to help anyone who may be having struggles and needs help moving in the right direction. My intention is to assist and encourage as many people to become healthier and more well-rounded individuals both mentally and physically. I am able to discuss and treat a variety of behavior health concerns with the adult population (18+). I am trained in and able to use several therapeutic approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness training, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) models while using my motivational interviewing skills to assist you in processing your story.

Hi. I’m Peggy. I am an LPC in the Great State of Texas and have extensive experience working in the mental health field. I am a United States Navy veteran and a retired federal civilian employee. These life experiences have helped to shape who I am – a straight forward, authentic person. I’m task oriented in that I believe if you voluntarily reached out for a counselor, there’s probably a reason. So let’s get to work. On the other hand, I also believe that sometimes life events can seem overwhelming in the moment and you just need someone to talk to, not to fix anything, just someone to listen. I’m that person as well. I wish I could press a button to fix whatever is going on in your life, but we all know that’s not possible. This journey is yours to take, but you don't have to go alone. As a member of your team. I promise I’ll walk beside you, encourage you, and be your biggest ally. Although it may not always seem like it, just remember – you’ve got this!

I am a semi-retired Professional Counselor working two days a week (Mondays and Wednesdays, sorry for any inconvenience) assisting clients in resolving stress and anxiety, self-esteem, anger, resentment, and guilt issues. Do you ever think to yourself, “I’m disappointed with myself; I wish I felt better about myself, I’ve lost myself in this relationship” or “I’m not good enough?” You know this struggle isn’t necessary because you also have times when you are very pleased with yourself, and satisfied with your decisions and actions. Both your failures and successes often result from the beliefs that you have about yourself; what we call identity or self-concept. Your self-concept directs your behaviors towards who you believe you are. Imagine what it will be like with a sense of self that is accurate, durable and positive. You will experience more kindness and compassion towards yourself and at the same time not lose yourself in important relationships. Become the person you want to be - learn a series of simple steps that will strengthen the qualities in yourself that you like, and change the qualities that you don’t like, so that you can have a much better and more satisfying life. I look forward to assisting you in this journey

How do I know if online counseling is right for my family in Hawk Cove?

One of the potentially rewarding aspects of working with a therapist is the validation and active listening they can provide. Your friends and loved ones may also be available to listen, but you may feel that they may lack the skills to provide objective guidance. Counselors are trained to respond to various concerns, symptoms, and mental health conditions.

Should I find a therapist or psychologist for therapy if I feel fine?

Some simply don't feel the need to see a psychologist. However, some people may avoid attending therapy due to stigma or preconceived notions of what it might entail. Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or specific condition. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback. A Hawk Cove licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.

Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find with a Hawk Cove counselor can be dependent on your process.

People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles that a counselor can help with.

Is mental health care and therapy with a therapist worth it?

Therapy with a licensed counselor is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. An experienced clinician can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health therapist has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based licensed clinician in Hawk Cove, Texas can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.

Hawk Cove has many clinicians who practice person or client-centered individual therapy in-person and through online sessions to assist clients in their healing journey. If you opt into online therapy, you might also be able to meet with providers all over the United States and change easily at any time. Many people struggling with anxiety and depression, substance abuse, body image issues, and more find therapists that are a good fit for them, feel supported, and gain further insight into their lives through internet-based therapy.

Do therapists judge you in therapy sessions during telehealth appointments?

The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you. You might consider changing counselors if you don't feel safe or respected.
