Casey Unger
I am Casey , Licensed Professional Counselor. I have been in the mental health field since 1994 and licensed since 2002. My experience ranges from working with the chronically mentally ill in public mental health, private practice, inpatient psychiatric, diagnostics/assessment, crisis intervention, anger management, and employee assistance. My primary approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and the effectiveness it has in pointing out negative thought patterns. I also love to use Solution-Focused Therapy as well. Through CBT I can help you see unconscious schemas that are leading you to do what you do, where they came from, how they developed, and ultimately how to become your own therapist reframing and moving forward on your own. I love working with all individuals but feel that I have a specific skill in understanding people who feel thrown away, bullied, and/or marginalized in society. Historically, I have always done very well with people that no one else seems to be able to help or reach. In your first session you can expect to have me ask questions of you so I can understand who you are, where you come from, what has shaped your beliefs and perceptions, and to ultimately plot a course for something better. Most people are nervous and do not know what to expect so what I will say is we will just talk. While I do happen to be licensed, I am human, equal, and not above anyone. I will make telephonic/televideo therapy every bit as personal as face to face. I am also very analytical and able to see/put together patterns, diagnoses, and have an excellent ability to "turn on the windshield wipers in the rain" for my clients. As a result of surviving my own trauma as well as being a survivor of a disaster, I realize that one event in anyone's lives can reverse the side of the desk they are sitting on. There is always that one event(s) that can put the counselor into the position of the client as well and shows our vulnerability as humans. I make it a point to come across as approachable and not superior and I am VERY responsive to my clients. . Also finally, please note: If you are covered under CVS/Aetna EAP then please choose another therapist as I am unable to accept these clients due to a conflict of interest. Also please note, due to time constraints, that I am only doing individual counseling and not couple's counseling.

I have been a therapist for over 17 years, and have had the privilege to serve a very wide demographic of individuals and groups as an owner of a private practice as well as executive coach. While an owner of a private practice, I trained in many areas of specialty, so I could provide the best quality therapy for anyone that was introduced to our clinic, and especially those that my associate therapists were not trained to serve and help. My areas of specialties include PTSD, Sexual Abuse Recovery, Depression, Anxiety, Couples Therapy and Relationship Issues, Grief and Loss, Sexual Issues and Dysfunction, Addiction Issues, Personality and Mood Disorders, Self-harm and Eating Disorders, Spiritual Issues, Addiction, Mediation, Career Counseling and Life Coaching. I thoroughly enjoy what I do, and consider it a privilege to walk alongside someone through sometimes the most difficult time in their life. It is an honor to be trusted to encourage and provide tools to help people transform their lives. Both reactive therapy (helping people recover and thrive in life) and proactive coaching (helping people achieve their goals) are enjoyable for me, so no matter what your goals are, if you feel I am a fit for you, I will do my best to help you achieve those goals as quickly as possible. I work from a brief therapy model, but will extend the treatment plan as agreed and needed if other issues present. I look forward to meeting you and helping you move forward from a place of feeling "stuck" to achieving wellness. Let's get started!

I have been practicing counseling for 11 years. I work with adult individual seeking to address anxiety, depression, anger, and trauma; however, most clients eventually share how these feelings and issues are related to their life's experiences and how they impact their important relationships (Partners, children, parents, work, etc). I help my clients walk both aspects of these needs: Their individual concerns and their relationships/family challenges. I can help with individual processing of feelings, behaviors, symptoms; as well as, increasing understanding and knowledge, skill building, and much more.

As a counselor I see my role in working with folks is to help create peace within themselves. What I notice is that when people have that inner peace it helps them find their own way and move forward with the life they want to lead. I've been practicing for over 12 years and nothing makes me happier to see people making the changes that create happiness and meaning in their lives. The way that I begin my work with folks is by doing a thorough background history that allows me to get a better view of what is going on and how I can better serve you. I can help you start on this path to a better you.

As a licensed therapist with 21 years of experience, I share a variety of tools and strategies with clients. Then I teach how to effectively implement these new skills in the real world. I have experience in helping clients with relationship problems, motivation, self esteem and confidence, career challenges, coping with grief and loss and life changes. How should I prepare for my first therapy session with a Parker counselor?
Before seeing your Parker therapist, prep for your session by reading to understand the process. You might write a list of questions you want to ask your psychotherapist, any emotional pain you may feel, and the ways in which you hope to improve. When you attend your session, you can let our therapists know if you have any concerns or feel unsure about what to talk about. Parker therapists here may help guide you with open-ended therapeutic questions while offering mental health services. The first session will often serve as an intake to get to know you as a person and learn why you're attending therapy.
Should I find a therapist or psychologist for therapy if I feel fine?
Some simply don't feel the need to see a psychologist. However, some people may avoid attending therapy due to stigma or preconceived notions of what it might entail. Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or specific condition. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback. A Parker licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.
Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find with a Parker counselor can be dependent on your process.
People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles that a counselor can help with.
Is mental health care and therapy with a therapist worth it?
Therapy with a licensed counselor is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. A psychologist can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health therapist has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based psychologist in Parker, Texas can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.
Parker has many clinicians who practice person or client-centered individual therapy in-person and through online sessions to assist clients in their healing journey. If you opt into online therapy, you might also be able to meet with providers all over the United States and change therapists easily at any time. Many people struggling with anxiety and depression, substance abuse, body image issues, and more find therapists that are a good fit for them, feel supported, and gain further insight into their lives through internet-based therapy.
Do therapists judge you in therapy sessions during telehealth appointments?
The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you. You might consider changing counselors if you don't feel safe or respected.
