Hello & Welcome! I am very happy that you have found my profile on BetterHelp. I am currently licensed in the state of Texas as an Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I have lived on and off in Texas since high school and my graduation from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. My primary training is as an Art Therapist from Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, Illinois. Since graduating from SIUE, I have worked for over 20 years providing adult, adolescent, and children's therapy to individuals seeking help and support through counseling. I have worked in adult community mental health settings, where I provided both individual and group therapy to those individuals affected by anxiety, depression, mood swings, and other issues related to wanting to live their best life - only needing help and support to recover and grow! I have also worked with individuals affected by trauma such as domestic violence and other types of interpersonal or partner violence. Whether in Illinois, or Texas, I have continued to grow as a professional and have additional training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I continue to focus my continuing education on how trauma, depression, and anxiety, and other mental health issues impact attachment, development, and the brain. This next year of professional education and growth will focus heavily on cultural diversity, awareness of privilege and disparity, and how to best support and help individuals in the LGBTQIA+ community, and Persons of Color (POC). I grew up mostly in Iowa before being transplanted to Texas in my teens. Graduate school took me back to the Midwest in the St. Louis area, where I stayed for 10 years post graduation. It was there that I was introduced to yoga and became interested in meditation and other mindfulness practices. I enjoy spending time with friends and family, and hanging out with my dogs, I believe in having a Wellness Plan for myself that includes time for reflection, reading, exercise, eating good food, and taking trips with my fiancé. I love to go to Big Bend and hike, and to enjoy the people in the vast desert of West Texas. Love the smell of the creosote and wide blue skies. My next state to explore would be Colorado! Not sure that I have a 'bucket list' but enjoy having new experiences, traveling, and learning to appreciate the differences in culture among people and different regions of the United States. My therapeutic framework is heavily influenced by Attachment, Development and the impact of trauma on individuals. As I have grown as professional therapist, I continue to incorporate on going education and learning around Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and more recently Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I feel strongly that counseling should be person-centered, developing a foundation of trust and safety so that the therapeutic relationship starts with what the individual has identified and prioritized to be important to them. Regardless of the therapeutic approach, I believe in helping to challenge and change feelings, thoughts and behaviors that are not currently working for my client. Overall, therapy is about problem solving, improving emotional regulation, and the development of personal coping strategies that support the ability for everyone to Live, Laugh & Love. I look forward to hearing from you and finding out how I can best help and support you through this process using the BetterHelp platform with video, text, and email. BetterHelp is an awesome way to explore the benefits and flexibility of having a therapist who fits into your schedule through the non-traditional growth of telehealth and virtual counseling!

My Approach I believe in meeting you right where you are in your journey. Each session is tailored to integrate your personal strengths with the most effective strategies available. My training in both the Gottman Method and trauma-based therapy enriches my ability to address diverse relationship dynamics and deep-seated emotional challenges. Specializations Couples Therapy: Utilizing the Gottman Method, I help couples rebuild healthy relationships grounded in mutual respect and understanding. Trauma Therapy: I apply trauma-informed techniques to help individuals navigate and heal from their past experiences, fostering resilience and empowerment. Holistic Wellness: As a CIMHP, I integrate aspects of physical and mental wellness to enhance your overall well-being. When addressing anxiety, depression, and anger management in your portfolio, it's important to communicate both a deep understanding of these issues and a compassionate approach to helping clients manage and overcome them. Here’s how you could describe your services for each: Anxiety In today's world, anxiety can feel like a constant companion. In my therapy sessions, I aim to offer a safe and calming environment where you can learn to understand and manage your anxiety. We'll explore the roots of your anxiety, identify triggers, and employ techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) to help you develop healthier thought patterns and relaxation skills. My goal is to empower you with the tools to regain control over your anxiety, enhancing your overall quality of life. Depression Depression can dim the joy of living, making even everyday tasks feel overwhelming. As a therapist, I provide a supportive space to talk openly about your feelings and challenges. We'll work together to uncover the underlying causes of your depression and address them using a blend of therapeutic techniques, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and integrative methods that consider your overall wellness. By building on your strengths and fostering resilience, our sessions will help you rediscover hope and work towards a more fulfilling life. Anger Management Anger, though a natural emotion, can disrupt your life and relationships if not managed properly. In our sessions, we focus on understanding the sources of your anger and learning to express it in healthy ways. Using evidence-based strategies like Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and mindfulness techniques, you will learn to recognize triggers, control your responses, and communicate your feelings more effectively. My approach is centered on helping you transform anger into a constructive force that advocates for your needs without causing harm or regret. Therapeutic Techniques My practice is rooted in evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). These methodologies are proven to facilitate positive change and are adapted to fit your unique needs and lifestyle. Your Partner in Healing I am committed to being a supportive and genuine partner in your therapeutic journey. Together, we will explore avenues for growth and healing, aiming for the quality of life you aspire to achieve.

Hello! My name is Domingo Zapata and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) from south Texas, also known as the Rio Grande Valley. I have been a practicing therapist as of 2016, providing outpatient mental health services for local nonprofit behavioral health agencies in my community as well as in the university setting. I enjoy working with individuals of all ages and of any gender identification. This is not a place of judgment, but rather a place of love and acceptance. As a counselor, being of aid and emotional support in any manner will always come first. I firmly believe everyone deserves to be treated with immense care, kindness, and compassion. I specialize in treating and coping with depression, anxiety, trauma/abuse, low self-esteem/motivation, as well as LGBTQIA+ related concerns, as being of aid to the LGBTQIA+ community is central to my personal philosophy and personal life. My approach as a counselor is highly existential and client-centered in theory, as I believe no two individuals are alike and have found immense success with the combination of various forms of psychotherapy, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), existential therapy, narrative therapy, mindfulness, and solution-focused therapy. Ultimately, taking the first step in asking for help is the best thing one can do, and for that, I am immensely proud of you. I look forward to helping you on your path to health and healing!
