I work with adults and adolescents dealing with issues such as career decisions, anxiety, relationship issues, depression and much more. I have experience in inpatient treatment working with a variety of different psychiatric disorders and situations. I have experience in career counseling and helping people of all ages navigate career decisions or changes and it is something I am truly passionate about. In my work with clients I take a client-centered approach, viewing counseling as a collaborative effort on both client and therapist. I also see that most of our issues come from early life and hold us back if we do not address them. If you are looking for someone to work with you, and help you through whatever stage in life you are at then I would love to help.

In our life's journey change is inevitable. With intentionality, and reflection we can move towards growth. As a counselor I seek to support my clients to move towards, healing, self discovery, and living a whole hearted life. My therapeutic approach is a person centered approach. I believe that all can benefit from the process of therapy, and that the therapeutic process can provide a grounded centeredness and strength to support us through the challenges that all will face. Healing and growth can further happen in the context of relationships, and I believe the therapeutic relationship can provide that space. In my work as a clinician my focus has been in supporting individuals, as they move through milestone moments. As a clinician my background in attachment theory, neuroscience, and trauma informed practices are part of my approach. I use a narrative therapy, mindfulness, interpersonal psychotherapy, solution focused approaches, and expressive arts in my practice. I have over twenty years of experience as a clinician. As a therapist my area of expertise has been in the areas of providing women support through the movement of life's journeys, providing parenting support, and to also to providing support to new parents and parents of special needs children. I offer my clients a safe, nurturing, and reflective space to heal and grow. Supporting clients in working towards decreasing symptoms of depression and anxiety, working through relationship challenges, healing from trauma, are areas of my expertise. I am honored to have the opportunity to journey with you as you step into your healing, resilience, and purpose.

Carla McGehee
I graduated from Dallas Baptist University May of 2014. I did my Internship at Texoma Community Center (formerly the MHMR of Grayson County) in Sherman, TX as an Intake Specialist. I became a Texas Licensed Professional Counselor 11/2017 No. 71823. I continued at Texoma Community Center for an additional four and a half years as a mental health counselor. I started at Tidemark Therapy as a counselor in May 2020. Now I am looking to transition into my own practice and am looking for clients on BetterHelp to feel empty slots. I have worked with a wide variety of clients. My counseling experience dealt with people struggling with depression, anxiety, loss, trauma, chronic pain, and emotional control. I have had success with clients that have anything from a diagnosed disorder to short-term adjustment issues. I believe that attempts at real change create losses that need to be mourned. I have helped clients to let go of old habits that have been a comfort. In the case of situational loss, I can help with reimagining life after loss, be it the death of a loved one to a loss of a job. I have helped others to redefine their future so they can move on. I have had success with those who have emotional control issues by applying a program designed to help emotional issues surrounding addiction/negative coping. Negative coping can be anything one uses to avoid fear or emotional pain. These can be behaviors and responses that can interfere with healthy functioning. I use concepts of Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I break down the concepts that help provide a way of talking about thinking, without which can get very abstract. I am also very aware of how spiritual beliefs can help with the counseling process. With the client’s permission I am willing to use a client’s belief system to provide support and encouragement to help navigate the counseling process. Sessions are usually 45 minutes long and go at the client’s pace. The sessions are flexible to allow time to deal with any new issues that may come up. The client is allowed to give feedback should they experience discomfort or become emotional. I do not believe in going into all the client’s sensitive experiences in order to counsel them. I strive to never probe areas that are not necessary to work on the client’s identified treatment goals. (These goals are defined collaboratively with the client and therapist’s input.) My goal is to never send a client out the door feeling emotionally torn up, but rather have them leave feeling hopeful. I believe, even if the subject matter is hard, it does not have to negatively affect one’s hope.

I am a family and marriage therapist licensed in California with over 8 years of experience. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting problems, career challenges, and substance abuse issues. I also helped those who have experienced sexual issues and physical trauma or emotional abuse, and those in need of Christian-focused counseling. I have also worked with residential and outpatient clients. My counseling style is warm, interactive, and non-judgmental. I believe that the client is the expert on themselves and therefore won't tell someone what they should do. My approach is primarily solution-focused. Together as a team we will create goals. Not everything works with everyone so it is important to state what you like and don't like in order to create a treatment plan to meet your needs. I want to congratulate you on taking the step to change in order to reach your goals of becoming happier and more free. I look forward to being able to support and empower you on this journey.
