Roanoke is considered the unique dining capital of Texas because of its wide variety of restaurants in the town. They are also known for the hotel where Bonnie and Clyde stayed in the 1930s. This and some other buildings in the town are on the National Register of Historic Places as well such as the Old Continental State Bank and the Roanoke Tourism Bureau.

While it is fun and interesting to explore the history of Roanoke, it can also be important to explore your own history. Some medical and emotional illnesses can be hereditary so knowing your history can be helpful in that regard. If you have any mental or emotional health concerns, talk to one of the great counselors in the Roanoke area for help.

I have focused a great deal of hours helping veterans via groups and individual counseling, as well as, PTSD awareness campaigns. I have also spent a great deal of time working with local and state mental health advocacy programs such as NAMI, Behavioral Health Advisory Council and many others. My counseling style is warm, interactive, and laid back. I listen. I believe in treating anyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don't believe in stigmatizing labels. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, cognitive processing therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, mindfulness, and rational-emotive counseling. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. My primary motivation is to help facilitate changes in behaviors based upon the client's needs and goals. I have worked with a range of clientele from strongly motivated to very resistant. The foundation is creating a therapeutic alliance and setting a pace toward client independence. Seeing the potential in each of my clients is great, but helping you see your own potential is beautiful. It takes courage to seek for a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you. I look forward to working with you!

Please call me Dorrie. I have been a counselor for 24 years primarily working with Veterans and their families. I am excited to be on Better Help to use my clinical experience on this online platform. I like to use worksheets and journals to get to know you when we are not doing sessions. I received my Masters in Social Work from the University of South Carolina. I use positive psychology, cognitive behavioral approach and emotional literacy to guide you through your issues. Positive psychology helps you to explore yourself through recognizing the positives in your life and accentuating them. The cognitive behavior approach helps you look closely at the decisions you make and the emotional literacy approach looks at how your emotions effect your decisions. I call myself a resource counselor because I will give you lots of material - handouts, worksheets, and internet links - to review and hopefully apply to your life. I am Christian and believe using the Bible that expresses wisdom and encourages love. God made each of us unique and "God saw that it was good." As an experienced therapist, I will adjust my style to your needs. My goal is to help you enjoy life.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a MA in Professional Counseling from Liberty University. I have focused my counseling career on helping individuals adjust to various life transitions and traumas. These transitions may be due to retirement, parenthood, or moving into adulthood. The transitions may be by choice, such as marriage, or by force, such as a work-related injury. No matter what the cause of the life transitions, I have dedicated my career to helping people learn how to identify the skills they already possess, strengthen these skills, and then learn new skills in order to make the life changes they desire. I also hold a BSW in Social Work from the University of Wyoming. Prior to becoming a counselor, I spent 16 years as a Social Worker focusing on helping individuals with chronic mental illness and life-altering disabilities learn to cope with life. My experience from this season of my career has helped enable me to look beyond the present circumstances and help individuals gain hope for a future created through circumstances, but not defined by those circumstances. I believe that therapy is a journey for which all people can benefit in order to take charge of their lives and make intentional choices to find joy in the midst of a chaotic world. My role within this journey is to come alongside my client and help them grow during this season of change. I look forward to the opportunities for growth and change which are available as a partner with my clients. On a personal note, I have lived in Texas for over 27 years and enjoy the diversity and opportunities available in the Lonestar State. When I'm not working I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, and learning about history.

I am a psychologist and have been licensed for 42 years. I had a solo private practice delivering psychological services to children, adolescents and adults since 1983. I made the decision to close my private practice on 01/31/2022. It was a hard decision but do to a variety of considerations; I saw it as an off ramp from the world of private practice. I've been doing tele-therapy for over a two years; and have really enjoyed the experience. Tele-therapy is the past, the present and the future delivery system of psychological services for all patient populations. Although there are differences between in-person versus tele-therapy, in my opinion; these differences are insignificant; and in my experience have no impact on effectiveness. My approach to the process of individual therapy is a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy; which in English means we examine the relationship between ones thoughts, feelings and behavior choices from the perspective of an individuals past and present experiences through out childhood, adolescence and adulthood and the Bio-Psycho-Social paradigm of therapy. Which translates to using medication management when it is deemed medically necessary by a physician; combined with individual therapy that addresses issues of self and attachments to others both in and outside of the individuals family. Therapy is a marathon not a sprint. It's a guided tour of healthy change. Change for everybody is difficult at any developmental phase of life. Having been in therapy for many decades I can say : "It wasn't easy, but so very rewarding." At the end of the day "people do what they want to do." Therapy examines an individual's pattern of choices and their consequences in a confidential and judgement free environment. Then through therapy new and healthier skill sets are learned to help navigate ones personal and professional lives for the goal of making healthier patterns of choices that enhances how one feels about themselves and their significant attachments to others.
