Hello and welcome. You have taken a big step towards helping yourself. I hope that I have the privilege of working with you. My name is Yvette Ramirez, MS, LPC. I started my counseling career working with clients that were diagnosed with bipolar disorder, major depression, schizophrenia, or schizo-affective disorder. I would visit client's in their homes and help them understand their diagnosis, teach them how to cope with symptoms, and teach the importance of medication adherence. I was promoted to the Integrated Care department where I practiced solution focused therapy with client's that had medical issues that exasperated their mental health issues, or vice versa. I was trained and certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in the State of Texas, and continue to utilize CBT in my practice today. I was promoted to a supervisory position for the Assertive Community Treatment Team and lead a team of 13 case managers, nurses, and LCDCs, which worked with clients that were high utilizers of the local mental health hospitals and were in crisis often. I was the lead counselor for the team as well, and was trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy to assist our client's with trauma they have endured and to teach them to challenge the negative thoughts they had about themselves in regard to that trauma. I worked in private practice at Step by Step Counseling and Alamo Heights Counseling, Inc. part time and expanded my counseling career. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprogramming to help those who have lived through a traumatic event that is causing distress in their lives, or clients that endure distress that they find difficult to handle. I now work full time in private practice and enjoy helping people like you every day reach their goals to feeling the best they can . I am person centered and listen to your needs and wants to help you get to where you are feel the most successful. Thank you so much for visiting my profile. I look forward to working with you.

I help people understand and cope with a variety of mild, moderate or severe life circumstances and/or emotional, behavioral or cognitive concerns. I specialize in trauma/PTSD and have extensive training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. I have also trained in DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), narrative therapy and EFT (Emotionally-Focused Therapy). Additionally, I treat anxiety, stress, grief, low self esteem, personality disorders and building effective boundaries with family/relationships. People have the drive to be emotionally healthy with themselves and their loved ones. Therapy can often help achieve these goals. My counseling style is warm and interactive, I believe it is important to treat anyone with respect and dignity, to empower them and instill confidence in a compassionate manner. No two problems are ever exactly the same, so I make it my personal objective to listen very carefully to each person and in a very open and non-judgmental way. I always do my best to understand what each situation feels like when looking out through their eyes. I believe in being client-centered and supporting client’s where they are at (with a pinch of humor thrown in). It is important for me to include the client in the treatment planning process and help monitoring success. It takes courage and bravery to take that first step towards change, if you are ready to take that first step I am happy to help guide, support and encourage along the way. I often reflect back to the period of time when I decided to enter the field of psychology and counseling.  There were many life challenges along the way that extended a hand in my decision to pursue a career in the world of behavioral health.  I have spent the last 21 years growing as a therapist in my work with adults dealing with stress and anxiety, depression, addiction recovery, trauma and abuse, relationship or family issues, conflict resolution, and adjustment to life changing events.  My professional experiences in outpatient and inpatient settings have seasoned me in most behavioral health conditions, to include crisis assessment, intervention, and stabilization. Despite these experiences, I embrace the importance in malleability of mind and perspective. I remain as much a student today as I was one to two decades ago and have resigned to the conception of life-long learning and personal growth.  My Approach
Feeling emotionally imbalanced can often feel frightening and overwhelming, worsened by the notion that you are going at it alone.  My approach is action-oriented, thought challenging, but reliably embraced with humility, empathy, compassion, and a human level connection. As a therapist, I do believe that there is much to be said on the art of motivation.  There is even more to be said on inspirational influence and forming an alliance with purposefulness.  Through an integrated and holistic approach to care, my hope is to help you find peace in accepting the things you cannot change; the inspiration, motivation, and courage to change the things that you can; and the insight to understand this difference. Being a part of someone else's healing process, or "search for meaning" is an extraordinary experience and certainly a privilege.
