I have been a counselor for 20+ years. Counseling is a calling for me - a passion. I feel honored to come alongside those who are hurting, or who find themselves in a challenging place in their lives, and help them navigate through the difficulties that they face. I like to help my clients gain insight about themselves and others, assist them through the healing process, and then help them get back on track with their lives. I deal with the past issues as they affect the present, and I apply cognitive behavioral techniques to assist clients in facing and dealing with past hurts so they can heal and keep their past from hindering their progress in the present and future. As a therapist, I would describe myself as empathetic, non-judgmental, direct, honest, and practical. I offer my clients my genuine concern and empathy, combined with my direct thoughts, insights, and recommendations. I can offer you a safe place to sort through what is on your mind and heart. Many people carry a heavy load emotionally and fear letting their guard down with others. One of the benefits of therapy is that I am not in your every day life. I am not your friend or family member...I am your counselor. I am not here to judge you. I can help you cut through the noise and get to the root of what is truly troubling you and I can walk you through the steps necessary to bring about the change you desire to see in your life. “In my early professional years I was asking the question: How can I treat, or cure, or change this person? Now I would phrase the question in this way: How can I provide a relationship which this person may use for their own personal growth?” - Carl Rogers I believe that the most important thing in counseling is the therapeutic relationship that will develop between us, and that you will experience me as a real and genuine person in this relationship. As a Licensed Professional Counselor – Supervisor and Registered Play Therapist, I have provided counseling services for over a decade in a variety of roles including university based mental health clinics, crisis hospitalization treatment, and as a child and adolescent parent educator. I became interested in counseling through my own recovery from addiction. Thirty -four years ago, with seven years in my own recovery, I became a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor. I worked in the office of a psychiatrist as a counselor for his patients with addictions. I soon realized that in many cases the addiction and abuse of substances was a symptom of other mental and psychological problems. So in 2000 I went back to school for a Masters in Clinical Psychology. I have worked in physician's offices, non profit agencies, day treatment programs, and with the courts in Harris County in diversion programs with offenders. I am experienced in many approaches, cognitive-behavioral, psycho-dynamic, solution focused and trauma recovery. I view my clients as experts about their problem based struggles and simply offer my experience and knowledge in working to find a path to recovery together. I am accepting of different life-style choices and a liberal thinker. If you are ready to begin your journey, I would be honored to accompany you.

We live in busy times with many responsibilities as students, workers, children, and as a parent, or any combination of these. It is easy to become overworked, set high expectations of ourselves, and can become exhausted with our own efforts, struggling to find purpose, optimism, and motivation. I believe that when we slow down and have someone to check in with, we can find our way back to what we believe is our path, our purpose, and/or be more present in our lives. Checking in with our habits, behaviors and our emotions and intuition can tell us if and when we are thriving in life. I also believe in the resilience and capacity for growth within every individual, however, sometimes due to trauma or patterns of behavior, we become stuck. One may know their behavior is unhealthy or preventing growth, yet unaware of how to change. The process of therapy is exploring what is stopping you from living your best life and offering support and guidance to make changes. I have experience helping clients experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, emotional dysregulation, adjustment to life transitions, relationship issues, and parenting concerns. My therapeutic style is collaborative, person-centered, and solution focused. I am friendly, passionate, optimistic, and show up authentically in the therapy room. I frequently use a psychodynamic approach, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT/DBT/ACT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), tailored to meet the unique needs of each client.
