Dr. Andrew Perez
Hello, I have been working as a therapist since 2011. Most of my experience has been working with college students ranging anywhere from 17 years old to older non traditional students in their 40's or 50's. I have also worked in the Texas prison system providing mental health services to prisoners. I received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Criminal justice in 2007, a Masters of Arts in Clinical Psychology in 2011, and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Rehabilitation Counseling in 2018. I became a Licensed Professional Counselor Intern in 2011 and began working towards my hours. I became fully licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor in 2013. The beginning of my career after obtaining a Clinical Psychology degree was in the criminal justice system. I have worked in a university counseling center since 2013. I also became a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor in 2015. My current work involves providing mental health services to students and supervising interns as well as staff. I also provide supervision to less experienced therapists outside of the university. In addition, I teach on a part-time basis as needed. I have worked here privately online for a little over one year and have provided counseling services to variety of people with various backgrounds. I use a variety of treatment approaches but mostly Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is focused on how thoughts, behaviors, and emotions are connected and how if we change one then the others will be affected. I am also like Solution-focused Therapy approaches and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy approaches. I have had some formal training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and have used it with clients as well. I use variety of approaches though, depending on what is called for and what I and the client determine might be best for them.

Sharon Esters
Hello- I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who has been in the helping profession for 8 years. When I graduated with my bachelor’s degree in 1996, I worked as a worker’s compensation adjuster for 12 years. The money was great, but I hated working in that field. Eventually, the company I was working for downsized, so I was laid off. From there, I was lost and didn’t know what to do. Should I continue to stay in the same line of work for the next 12 years, dreading to get out of the bed every day for the money, or should I find a career that will help me utilize my own personal experiences and education to make a difference in the lives of others? I chose to follow my heart. When I took my first counseling class, I knew being a counselor was my calling in life. This is what I was born to do. I realized the most important thing in the world is not how much money you make; it’s about enjoying the work you do. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying I don’t enjoy making money, but I know I wasn’t happy. Being a counselor makes me feel alive, full of hope, and purpose. Educating clients on how to manage their mood disorders, stressors, or providing guidance to some of the most difficult challenges in a person’s life is what I live for. I want you to know that I am here for you. We can face life’s challenges together. Sincerely, Sharon Esters

When we want to change, developing emotional awareness helps the healing process. I have held space with my clients to discover this for 18 years using a variety of techniques from Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavior Therapy to Dialectical Behavior Therapy. Sometimes who we need is a collaborator and coach and at other times someone to validate our experience and I will be this for you. I believe the quality of our working relationship is essential to the quality of your outcomes and we will make sure to incorporate this feedback. Ultimately I would like you to say everything. Many of the people I have worked with over the years have had experiences with substance use or feeling marginalized by how they identify. Together we will develop strategies towards resilience and steps toward change.
