Hi, I look forward to meeting you. I truly believe all people are amazing and I’ve focused my life work towards psychology, human behavior and data analysis. I have more than 20 years of experience serving people who struggle with anxiety, depression, mood disorders, addiction, turama, anger management, ADHD, OCD, ASD, grief, hospice, and many other mental and behavioral problems. I am not new to living and learning or growing. I am familiar with pain.....although I know I dislike pain , in fact I often declare that “I’m allergic to pain because I know I don’t like it “, however I have learned that it is through pain I’ve actually gained the most happiness and peace. I am a professional with dual licenses.....a licensed clinical social worker and a licensed behavior analyst ......who started out professionally as a computer system analyst. Because of my own pain, experiences and education I’ve become more and more into Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) therapy a fairly recent Cognitive Behavioral Approach......it’s something I’ve found has severed me well and has been the most useful to others I’ve been blessed to engage with on our journey here. When we are able to notice our own discomfort we are more motivated to make effective and meaningful changes in our behaviors that will lead us to a more meaningful and joyful life. Growing pains are part of the process but can lead us to growth and the ability to identify and focus on what we, our own self knows is true for us.....what we value (self as context). My goal is to help you recognize what your pain is trying to tell you, discover what strategies can help you live through that pain....anxiety, depression....by increasing your behaviors of copping......mindfulness, focus ........ that will serve you and increase your psychological flexibility. I will often use the ACT Matrix to help “sort “ things out as a tool on our journey together. I would be delighted to take this journey with you and I look forward to meeting you and learning more about what you would like to achieve.

I have been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker for over 34+ years, graduating from a school of social welfare . I hold an undergraduate degree in Psychology. I am married and have two grown Children. I currently work in an urban Community Mental Health setting helping people with mental health issues,(diagnosed with Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia and Personality disorders)as well as issues with major life stressors and relationship issues. I am the Assistant Director supervising 13 clinicians, and I have a caseload myself. Prior to being promoted in 2000 I was a full time therapist. I also have experience working at the local Correctional Facility, and at our County Social Services Department. I have dealt with all kinds of people with a variety of issues. I am open minded and do not judge people for their actions, believing respect for everyone is very important no matter what their background or current circumstances. I also believe in the safety of the therapeutic relationship, allowing people to experience their feelings without judgments or fear of ridicule. Grief and loss are common issues, along with depression, anxiety, vocational issues, stress and especially relationship issues( which can cause distress). I also try to motivate people to be healthy, reach out to people and feel better about themselves. I have some experience with addictions and how they get in the way of people reaching their goals. I have an eclectic approach using, CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy which can include homework that works to examine and change thoughts and feelings), Person Centered , Problem Solving a supportive Therapy and mindfulness. My approach is supportive and I start where the person is. I work hard to create a safe environment where people can feel free to express themselves. I have also been trained on helping people with smoking cessation. Therapy along with working with a prescriber for nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) can be very effective for quitting. I do operate from a strength based position. I am going to help highlight what is going well and build on that. Many people don't realize they have strengths or what things are going well. I also like to set small goals that lead to bigger changes. I like to use work sheets and homework as appropriate, but you are always part of this decision making process as this is your treatment. I know it can be hard to reach out for help, but making positive changes in your life can only help. I want you to reach the goals you set for yourself. I look forward to helping you through this process. Please also note, I may respond daily, but on occasion, I may not answer until the next day. It does not mean I do not want contact with you, it means I am thinking about the appropriate answer to your question/issue. one last thing, If at any point you feel that you no longer need/want services or will be unable to continue, please don't hesitate to let me know ahead of time so that we can bring things to a close when we need to. Please talk to me about your particular issue before you decide if I have the experience you are looking for. Welcome and I look forward to working together! **NOTE: I do not provide letters for Social Security, Therapy animals, Court, Motor Vehicles, employment, references or other types of letters. so if you are seeking treatment/therapy/counseling for those reasons, please seek out another counselor****

Hello! My name is Kevin Wilbanks, D. Min, MA, NCC, L.P.C., L.C.P.C., L.C.M.H.C. "Kevin" is fine! Thank you for reaching out to me! I am here to collaborate with you to get from where you are to where you want to be in your life. I facilitate client collaboration towards change in an environment of listening and understanding, non-judgmental consideration, dependability, and honesty. Our relationship in our work together is the most important thing, so you can grow as a person to be more of who you want to be. Therapy helps you resolve past interpersonal problems and overcomes barriers to growth by offering a “corrective emotional experience” through your relationship with me, as your therapist. An example is, finally feeling heard and understood by someone! It takes courage to reach out. Not only that, it is smart to do so. Part of growing in our competence in life is knowing our strengths and our limitations. Outsourcing is a good idea, especially if you have used your skills and resources and have not been able to change an aspect of your life. Everyone outsources. We do so when we hire someone to do any service on our house or car. We outsource when we have an athletic coach. I am an expert you can also outsource to, for more personal areas of life improvement. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I help clients capture a greater sense of wellbeing and control over their lives by teaching them new approaches to solving old problems. They may experience a sense of wellbeing and control they have never experienced before! My clients often come to me for counseling when they are experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, grief & loss, out of control anger, dissolution of a marriage or marital conflict, parenting challenges, life changes, and other life pain or challenges. To make life barriers become opportunities for growth, control and wellbeing, I help clients overcome these experiences by teaching them how to calm body and mind to aid them in decision making. I help clients gain awareness and insight into how the past is related to the present and help them to make different choices for their future. I help clients get unstuck from their failure in relationships or reaching other life goals by helping them change self-sabotaging beliefs, self-talk, and fears to more reality-based thoughts that have a powerful and positive impact on how they feel emotionally. I coach clients on adapting their behavioral skills to meet life challenges more effectively. In order to get to know me before we begin, here is my bio: Dr. Kevin Wilbanks received his Doctorate in Counseling (D. Min) from Covington Theological Seminary, Rossville, Georgia in 1998. He completed his Master of Arts (MA) from Argosy University, Atlanta, Georgia, in 1995, studying Counseling Psychology. Dr. Wilbanks received his Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Interdisciplinary Studies, Social Sciences in 1993 from N.W. Christian University, Eugene, Oregon. Dr. Wilbanks has worked as a clinical counselor for fourteen years, world-wide, supporting the United States Armed Forces mission. From 2000-2008, Dr. Wilbanks served as CEO of Counseling Associates of West Georgia, Inc., where he specialized in rural counseling and mediation, serving children, adolescents, adults, families and couples. He has more extensive experience to list in this bio. He enjoys playing drums and percussion, hiking, fitness, travelling and reading.
