I believe that that the value of therapy is having an objective person's eyes and ears on your struggles and that the process can help you move forward when you are feeling "stuck." Identifying your strengths and ideal solutions are part of a treatment plan that helps us stay focused and determine how effective therapy is in your life. Additionally, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy mode I use to discover what thoughts, feelings and belief systems are at play in feeling "stuck," and produces new ideas about approaching your issues. I am now very excited about implementing the use of a fairly new mode of therapy known as "ACT" that stands for "Acceptance and Commitment Therapy". People walk through this self-discovery process not because it's easy, but to feel better, lighter and more effective in navigating their lives. For the best therapeutic outcome, there needs to be trust and respect between the client and the therapist. I encourage any and all questions to see if we could be a good fit! I have recently decided to add to my bio by specifically letting potential clients know that most of my professional career as a therapist has been in working with sex offenders, their families and victims, as well as having expertise in domestic violence issues. Extreme/ toxic emotional abuse issues are becoming very common and there are now clearly defined cycles of those types of abuse. There seems to be a growing need for attention to these specific problems and a need for a professional who has a lot of experience in addressing these issues. It should also be noted that if someone is in need of sex offender therapy, they must have successfully completed a legally recognized program first. In my private time I enjoy growing organic gardens and cooking with the results, playing outdoors in every season- skiing, camping, hiking, kayaking, and love playing and hiking with my new dog (rescue), Blue. I look forward to meeting you and helping you to discover healthier and more authentic ways of relating to people, but especially ourselves.

I have a flair for helping people effect positive change in their lives. My offices are comfortable safe spaces to talk about difficult things and make tough decisions. The road to emotional wellness can be painful and challenging, so I try very hard to be encouraging and supportive while change is occurring. Hurt, pain and anger do not define who we are; it opens our emotional pathways to inform us of the need and time for change. Depression is usually an indication of the depth of personal disruption, so when it’s appropriate, I offer advice to validate feelings, encourage healing and to dismantle irrational thinking.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker that has worked over the course of 23 years in both inpatient Crisis and outpatient counseling settings with individuals, couples and families, ages 4 y.o. to 85 y.o. in Florida, Utah, Maine, Arizona, and several other countries. I am very versatile in my approach, tending to begin where you, the client are first, then tailoring my interventions from that point on. My specialty is in working with PTSD, i.e. abuse , and primary and secondary traumas. Relatedly, I am a Certified TIST [Trauma-informed Stabilization & Treatment] therapist, and have advanced training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, including the Flash Technique. I have also frequently worked with the Chronically Mentally Ill person, including those with Schizophrenia, Bipolar, Dissociative issues, and Depression, as well as those in various Life Transitional stages, Ex Pats, HSPs, and Developmental delays. I have also counseled a few individuals with up to middle stage Dementia (since newer Rx leaves them with tremendous adjustment issues) and their caregivers and parents struggling with parenting issues. My highest comfort level is with ages 18 and over in Individual sessions. My counseling style is ecclectic, with a warmth of engagement and focus on acceptance, positive regard, and trust-building, but can be highly solution-focused and brief as needed in the course of your therapy. I use a Motivational Interviewing technique to identify both what it is the client truly desires, as well as what they do not want, or are not motivated to achieve, and why. I then will shift to a more Strengths-based and Skill-building approach and the use of Cognitive-Behavioral and Humanistic interventions with a Family Systems and Developmental perspective on relational issues. I have done my own personal counseling work, and recognize it to be a powerful, yet courageous endeavor in a person's life. Good therapy can transform you and it is a gift to be able to engage in it. Every person is precious, and deserving of respect, kindness, and a place to be fully heard, accepted, and a place to develop their best selves in a healing, compassionate environment. I consider my work as a therapist to be a sacred trust, a privilege, a calling, and part of my own journey as a fellow human being. Working with you will be an honor to help you on your very unique path toward a healthier you, and in the style you determine to be the most helpful and supportive.

"Empathy is a relationship between equals." -Paolo Freire Human behavior when placed in context yet has ripples; however, too has quiet the flow, beauty, and reason to it. The behaviors manifest sometimes merely for the chronic quest of hanging on to survive, staying attached to that one person, or perhaps adopting humor to make others smile. The science of human attachment has interested me since I could remember. Attaching to folks around us, to ourselves, and to the world at large, is a profound process / journey that shapes multiple entities of our internal world. My undergraduate careers were based on the neuro make-up of *how* we actually feel emotions and bodily sensations through the nervous systems. After receiving my master's degree, I served folks 5-years old to end-of-life in settings of community mental health, juvenile detention centers, therapeutic foster care, private practice, geriatric wellness-assisted living facilities, medical social worker, and insurance contracted therapist. Before becoming a licensed clinical social worker, I served 14-years in the U.S. Army in various entities to include active duty, reserves, and the national guard to which I then went to serve as a contractor with the U.S. Navy. Often times, my therapy style has been described as integrative, analytical, yet simple. Discovering the "roots" or "drivers" of behavior(s) is the analysis part of which I really love doing. I wholeheartedly believe in an environment of free expression, essentially feeling like you are "vibing" with your therapist, so please be authentic. Giving you time and attention is my goal while effectively inviting you to think/do therapeutic considerations (I never offer advice, only "invitations"--due to mindful practice and you being the expert of your mind & body). I am trained in various models, approaches, concepts and I try to utilize as many as I can in each session when appropriate to effectively assist where I can. That said, I am one that does use a "here and then" (present & past) approach to treatment to assist with managing symptoms. Further, I authentically try to balance sensitivity (handling folks with care) while then assisting with growth. Undergoing therapy is not always an easy ride, there might be sessions where uncomfortable thoughts/feelings arise. With such, please know that it is my job to never leave you in an "emotional uneasy" place. Your job is to communicate those thoughts/feelings to me--even if it's in one sentence when those uneasy times come so I know. As posted by BetterHelp, this is not a mental health crisis service. This chat portal will not be monitored for crises. For mental health crises, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room. Please ask any question(s) you might have about this policy before starting services.
