Hello! Welcome to the BetterHelp community! My name is Lisa McCarton and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, practicing in Virginia for 20 years. I have specialized in psychotherapy and social work with children, adolescents and families. I have been providing psychotherapy for a wide variety of issues and populations, to include: behavioral problems; trauma issues; family relationships; mood disorders; school issues; and sexual abuse issues, among other areas. I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2000 with a Masters in Social Work. I began my post-masters clinical work in a residential treatment facility for emotionally and physically abused children. I provided therapy, as well as case management, for children and families. I would describe my approach as goal oriented, and client centered. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Problem-Solving Therapy and Strength-Based Approach. All of these modalities are hands-on, practical approaches to problem-solving. CBT treatment usually involves efforts to change thinking patterns and/or behaviors. The goals are to change patterns of maladaptive or unhealthy thinking in order to improve behavior and life situations. This helps people identify faulty or unhelpful ways of thinking and learn better ways of coping with life's full variety of stressors. Difficult and painful times are part of the human experience. I understand seeking help can be a vulnerable step to take. Exploring the healing process or enriching one’s personal growth, first and foremost, requires establishing a trusting and an emotional supportive relationship. Change is not easy, but it is possible.

As a therapist, I understand the bravery it takes to be completely vulnerable with another individual. My role in the counseling room is to meet you right where you are with respect, compassion, and non-judgement. I find it a privilege to journey with a client. Hi, I’m Tavares Bostic, I am a licensed clinical social worker in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. Best known for my down-to-earth and very sound approach, I look to help people marry the discontent they may feel in their lives, with proven coping mechanisms focusing on reducing symptoms related to their mental health diagnosis. With over a decade of experience, I have long been an advocate for helping remove the stigma attached to mental illness, helping couples renew their love and focus to one another, and ensuring that older adults in assisted living and retirement communities become educated on symptoms which are directly related to mental health diagnoses and become motivated to address them by engaging in psychotherapy and most appropriate psychotropic medication. I was blessed enough to earn my master’s in social work with a certification in clinical mental health from The University of Pittsburgh and my bachelors of social work from North Carolina A&T State University. I believe that the combination of cognitive behavioral therapy and Reality therapy is one of the most effective ways of empowering individuals to become their best. I have had the opportunity to work in multiple settings over the past 10 years and I’ve covered mental illness across the spectrum. Let’s sort out what troubles you in healthy ways by exploring your individual experience, and uncovering your unique strengths. I want to empower you to find your best path through this life as you heal from past hurts and search for meaning, purpose, and direction.

I am a Clinical Social Worker licensed in New York, and Virginia with over 15 years of experience working in clinical practice as a psychotherapist. My therapy centers on a perspective that puts your strengths and resources back to you rather than on your problems. I believe that the helping process highlights the capacity for resilience and courage. Seeking therapy can dominate feelings of fear and vulnerability, but it should not stop you from achieving your greatest self. People can change, and you are in control of achieving your goals and aspirations. By highlighting motivation for change, you can become a better version of yourself. Change is within and when you learn your purpose, it allows desired outcomes for newly found strengths. The modalities of treatment I use are Acceptance and Commitment Therapy; Brief Psychodynamic Therapy; Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy. My clinical specialties are depression, anxiety, grief and loss, life transitions, stress management, and geriatric. I also worked with people who have experienced trauma and emotional abuse. My therapy style is empathic, collaborative, and compassionate. I am here to provide positive regard, genuine concern, and do not believe in pathologizing labels.
