I am an individual and couples counselor who focuses on the relationship in counseling, the opportunity to solve problems, provide empathetic space for you to feel heard, and even laugh about the absurdity of life. You'll find that I am often straightforward and all about processing tough feelings and complicated ideas but I find so much joy in "meeting people where they are at" and matching your needs to the best of my strengths. I am largely a relational, cognitive behavioral, dialectal behavioral, and solution oriented counselor but I can mix and match a number of others styles. The biggest thing you might want to know about me is that I have a driving motto of counseling: "Nothing wasted, everything is valuable." This means that I find the "why?" behind everything small and large to be powerful indicators of what we can best due to serve you. It takes courage to seek for a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you. Allons-Y!
Hope Schaffrick

Mary Murphy
Hello and welcome. My name is Mary Murphy, licensed mental health counselor with 35 years hands-on, practical approach for greater harmony, greater well-being. Experience: Full-spectrum of major mental disorders and substance abuse, along with chronic struggles that negatively impact the quality of our relationships and our own sense of fulfillment. Excessive dependency, poor handling of our own reactions to provocation and the consequences of recurring personality flaws result in strained relationships, possibly becoming rejected or hurting the others, unnecessarily. Instead, one can practice and improve our presentation resulting in far better reception we receive and value people hold for us. Win-Win is a good bet. So often people feel stuck in a rut, making the same mistakes again and again. Angry, isolated, insecure, lonely. Poor self-image with depression hold us back, as does anxiety about making changes to enhance life rather than just tolerating conditions. Conflict within the family or at work create enormous stress. Grief and loss from death of loved one, divorce, layoffs, estrangement all take a terrible toll. Starting over at any age can be accomplished, but not easily. Lingering resentment or the overwhelming panic of displacement are true obstacles. The good news is that there is real potential for improvement and I wish to help getting started on a better path; more dynamic, secure and energized. The Hebrew Book Of Proverbs offer timeless advice that can be utilized for specific relief and guidance. Beautiful words of healing and grace. The trick here is to combine this ancient philosophy with practical (clinical) tools to make it a daily habit, and then enjoy the fruits of this endeavor. Such tools are proven to assist the healing process, speed recovery, find greater success. A very worthwhile venture. The journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step. Time to begin. Can you get better? Indeed!

Hello! My name is Catherine Chapman. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Oklahoma. I earned my Masters of Social work from the University of Oklahoma in 2012. I have been a practicing social worker for 10 years and, additionally, am certified in EMDR therapy which I have been utilizing in my practice since 2021. I have experience working in the hospital and medical field to help patients and their families to find the support and resources they need to get through whatever difficult life situation they may be facing. I feel this experience has given me a deeper understanding of the challenges people may face throughout their lives and the various reactions they may have, whether it be anger, grief, depression, or something else, while processing their own health concerns or those of a loved one. I realize that everyone faces these struggles either in their own lives or through someone close to them and that they can be very difficult to comprehend and accept at times. My goal as a therapist is to help people overcome these situations by providing them a better understanding and tools to guide them through these hard times. My methods focus on using the Strength Based Perspective, Person-in-Environment Perspective, EMDR, and Solution Focused Therapy. I believe you are the expert in your own life and I hope to help you recognize the strengths in yourself while offering support and a non-judgmental sounding board. I will take our time together seriously and give you my full attention to best help you. I look forward to working with you!

Dr. Charles Hoy-Ellis
I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) and a Certified Sexual Minority Specialist based in the Puget Sound region of Washington State. I have more than 20 years’ experience providing psychotherapeutic services in both community and private practice settings. I work primarily with sexual and gender diverse communities, often referred to as LGBTQ2SIA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, 2-Spirit, intersex, asexual, and others who do not identify as hetero and/or cisnormative. My clinical practice is informed by the research I have been involved with more than 20 years that examines how larger social structures, such as heterosexism “get under our skin” to influence mental and physical health processes and outcomes among historically marginalized and underserved communities. I also have significant experience and am comfortable in addressing issues and challenges (separately and/or intertwined) that may be important in clients’ lives, such as kink, polyamory, and growing older. My foundational perspective is psychodynamic and phenomenological – a way of understanding that things we think, feel, and do are often adaptive in our previous experiences of being human, such as (& not limited to) growing up and coming of age, and our interpersonal relationships. It suggests that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are shaped by unconscious motives and conflicts, often stemming from past experiences, particularly those in early childhood. Central to this perspective is that it is not what we experienced that shapes our beliefs about ourselves, others, and the world, but the meaning(s) we create to make sense of those experiences. This perspective also focuses on how these hidden forces interact with one another to affect our mental, emotional, and physical well-being. My master’s is in “clinical/contextual” practice. This means that I see the psychological challenges that people experience, such as ‘depression’ are almost always deeply connected to the social environment, past, present, and anticipated futures. For example, it has not been atypical that sexual and gender diverse who present with issues around depression and anxiety uncover that they may have unresolved internalized stigma related to their sexual and gender identities and orientations. It would be surprising if it weren’t because of the intense, ongoing socialization processes that we experience on an ongoing basis that often begin even before birth, for example, ‘girls are emotional, nurturing, and caring,’ while ‘boys are tough and don’t cry.’ When we violated those heteronormative, gender-normed (and made-up) behaviors we were punished – when we ‘stayed within the lines’ we were rewarded. The challenge – and the opportunity is that the behavioral repertoires we developed earlier in life (a metaphorical parka) to protect ourselves sink below our conscious awareness (become invisible) and are no longer protective. The metaphorical parka in Antarctica is good, that same parka in the Sahara – not so much…. While grounded in psychodynamics, I also have a wide variety of tools that I bring into the therapeutic relationship, including (but not limited to) cognitive behavioral, narrative, and rational-emotive-behavioral practices. Neither one tool nor one size fits all. A core worldview that I hold is that every person is the absolute expert on their own individual lives; I have expertise in understanding some of the general processes of human behavior in the social environment. I see my job as ‘walking with’ clients for a brief time to mutually explore not “what’s wrong with you,” but rather “what happened to you?” Lao Tze is credited with the saying that "the longest journey starts with a single step." When you are ready to take that first single step on your next journey, I am more than happy to walk with you.

How should I prepare for my first therapy session with a Hatton counselor?
Before seeing your Hatton therapist, prep for your session by reading to understand the process. You might write a list of questions you want to ask your psychotherapist, any emotional pain you may feel, and the ways in which you hope to improve. When you attend your session, you can let our therapists know if you have any concerns or feel unsure about what to talk about. Hatton therapists here may help guide you with open-ended therapeutic questions while offering mental health services. The first session will often serve as an intake to get to know you as a person and learn why you're attending therapy.
Should I find a therapist or psychologist for therapy if I feel fine?
Some simply don't feel the need to see a psychologist. However, some people may avoid attending therapy due to stigma or preconceived notions of what it might entail. Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or specific condition. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback. A Hatton licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.
Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find with a Hatton counselor can be dependent on your process.
People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles that a counselor can help with.
Is mental health care and therapy with a therapist worth it?
Therapy with a licensed counselor is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. A psychologist can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health therapist has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based psychologist in Hatton, Washington can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.
Hatton has many clinicians who practice person or client-centered individual therapy in-person and through online sessions to assist clients in their healing journey. If you opt into online therapy, you might also be able to meet with providers all over the United States and change therapists easily at any time. Many people struggling with anxiety and depression, substance abuse, body image issues, and more find therapists that are a good fit for them, feel supported, and gain further insight into their lives through internet-based therapy.
Do therapists judge you in therapy sessions during telehealth appointments?
The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you. You might consider changing counselors if you don't feel safe or respected.
