With Open Heart I Wish Greetings to All, I pride myself on meeting clients "where they are at" by initially providing much needed support and relief. Following is one of my favorite quote's - "One CAN walk over the highest mountain one step at a time." I assist you in defining your "goal" and taking your "first small step." I am Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Washington with over 25 years of experience in the psychocounseling field and as a life coach. I have successfully helped clients navigate such issues as depression, stress, anxiety, grief and loss (to include the loss of a pet), eating disorders (to include weight loss surgery and management), trauma, ADD and ADHD and coping with life changes. In addition my work has taken me throughout the US and overseas providing Military and Family Life Counseling. I appreciate that every client is unique. To that end, I approach each of you with warmth, caring, and support. I have used many proven therapeutic techniques over the years such as Positive Psychology, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Mindfulness and more to assist you to reach your desired goals. I thoroughly enjoy working with any age of client - from teens through adults with any orientation. Thanks ahead of time for choosing me. I honor your courage and empower you every "small step" of the way toward your goals and beyond.

Are you looking for some peace? My practice focuses on creating a safe place for you to begin or continue your process of healing. I have had several years of experience working with people who have issues with mental illness, substance abuse, and complex trauma. I use an eclectic approach that is client centered, and enjoy using EMDR, Gestalt, and existential modalities. I will provide a compassionate, validating and honest approach to addressing what is holding you back from experiencing peace in your life, and look forward to discovering how we can work together to find it. EMDR is a psychotherapy that assists people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of traumatic life experiences. EMDR removes stored blockages that have kept you "stuck" and reactive. My commitment is to allow you the freedom to express your feelings in a safe space of honesty, non-judgement, and compassion.

I became a therapist to help people suffer less and grow more. I believe that therapy is a journey and that just as you wish to move past your pain, your pain has a meaning. Our goal is not to get you back to who you were before your issues began, but to integrate the lessons life is offering you through this challenging time. I've worked in private practice, a mental health jail, a high-needs public clinic and in people's homes; I've exposed myself to a variety of human challenges and triumphs. Over a decade of practice, I've learned to have space for people's processes, to be a safe space as a container, to remain grounded in my listening and to be authentic in my practice. I often use a spiritual approach in treatment -- not of any religion, but in the sense that a deeper, more meaningful and integrated you seeks to come forth. This approach has been fruitful for people of all beliefs, including atheists. I believe your life has a meaning, and that you are it. I only do teletherapy via video - no messaging or phone calls. I also need to know the basics of your case and your needs before agreeing to beginning treatment, even if the algorithm matches us. This is to ensure I am a good clinical fit for you, and can responsibly and compassionately support you in therapy. Finally, I write about therapy at https://medium.com/@myartman and https://medium.com/@myartman/membership Thank you. Mitch

I am licensed as an LICSW and have worked for over three decades in private practice and also in the mental health public sector. I'm experienced in GLBTQ+-related issues; couples counseling and relationship issues; grief and loss issues; EAP issues; intimacy issues; abuse, trauma and gaslighting. I hope to help you work through the effects of unfinished business from the past and a range of other issues, including some of the more existential issues of this moment. My preferred approach is existential and psychodynamic, which acknowledges and explores feelings, instincts and unconscious processes, as distinguished from an approach that is more cognitive and behavioral. I'm spiritual but not religious. Although much of the therapy I do is short term, I also have many long term therapy who are looking for an increased sense of wholeness and an enhanced ability to connect with the world without a lot of amount of repression, self-judgment, dissociation and noise, all of which tends to get in the way of spontaneity, creativity and emotional authenticity. I call myself a psychodynamically-oriented therapist not because I believe that the unconscious exists in the same way that the moon exists, although there are parallels, but because acknowledging the existence of unconscious defenses/agendas can lead to some very powerful insights that would otherwise fly under the radar. In our highly technocratic and materialistic culture, that can indeed be a challenge but IMO, it's a challenge well-worth taking on. For the record, I don't tell clients what to do except in cases of domestic violence, self-harm or threats to others. Instead, I hope to act as a kind of mirror, while encouraging clients to explore their desires, conflicts, fears and feelings. Mirrors are by their very nature projective screens, however. As such, it is sometimes very challenging to separate what we see in the mirror from our own projections. You should know that while I don't send out a lot of Better Help worksheets and the like, I will frequently point my clients to sources, links, articles, books, poetry and research which are relevant to our work together and/or in which we have an interest. Finally, I have a strong aversion to treating clients like self-contained widgets who exist strictly in their heads while compartmentalizing-off their socioeconomic situation, which may be directly contributing to their depression, alienation and angst. If you're struggling with survival issues, however, I believe that grounding is essential, not a lot of speculation on the stars. Our therapeutic goals, therefore, should acknowledge that as well. While I'm eclectic in my approach, please know that there are no rabbits I can pull out of a hat. I can, however, try to better understand your weaknesses and leverage your strengths. Taking that first step to seeking a more fulfilling and happier life takes courage. You took that step in signing up with Better Help. I am here to help support you in that process.
