Hi there! I am a licensed mental health counselor in Washington with twelve years of experience working in a variety of mental health programs. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns such as depression, anxiety, behavioral issues, relationship issues, parenting skills, and have additional training specializing in work with trauma. My counseling style is warm and casual. I believe that everyone coming to counseling should be treated with warmth and respect. I believe in clear communication, not complicated jargon, and I do not believe in stigmatizing labels. I believe in a client-centered, humanistic approach that will focus on systems theory while maintaining a cognitive-behavioral approach. What all that means is, this is about you, and your treatment planning and work will be tailored to you, your environment, and your specific needs. Reaching out for support is one of the biggest steps in pursuing change, and here you are. If you are ready to take that next step, I am here to support and encourage you. I look forward to working with you!

My world view is flexible and my understanding is strong concerning multicultural issues in clinical practice. As confident as I am of my acumen, being able to communicate when things aren't working, and then offering to refer the client to another professional who may be able to better aid them makes me a good, self-aware and humble counselor As for my theoretical orientation, I have a fondness for Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy which has its merits working with substance abuse patients. However, Person Centered Theory (PCT) and Narrative Theory (NT) are what I perceive will be using with my clientele as follows: My PCT approach would attend to the natural potential to self-actualize. I would focus on building a therapeutic alliance through the tenets - genuineness, unconditional positive regard, empathy – from which will serve to create an environment of safety, growth and discovery of the person s/he is to become. Through my NT approach, I would elicit the stories or narratives s/he uses to inform and organize their sense of reality and explore how those stories describe and shape their perspectives on their past, present, and future. I would take into consideration how culture influences their stories. I would pay keen attention to detail being left out (the omissions) of their problem-saturated stories. Sessions would focus on re-authoring their singular story to establish (or, at least, consider) alternatives and options to their stories.

Seandel Aiken
Hello! I'm Seandel (Pronounced Shawn-dell). I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. My experience ranges from working in a juvenile detention center, drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers, and mental health centers. My diverse experience and education have allowed me to gain knowledge of working with children on the autism spectrum and their families, substance abuse, emotional disturbance, low self esteem, assertiveness training, mood instability, and survivors of sexual assault to name a few. My therapeutic orientation is reality therapy and choice theory that does not dwell on the past but how to live in the here and now and not allow the past to stunt growth or dictate the future. I want to empower my clients, support them and guide them to develop healthy coping skills and self-discovery. Life tends to show up whether we are ready or not, and I specialize in helping individuals, families, and groups process and deal with those issues. I understand the importance of building a strong therapeutic relationship that is genuine and promotes growth. My ideal client will value my supportive yet direct approach as he or she is ready to make changes in their lives and be the best version of themselves.

I have been a LPC for the last 10 years and have worked with a very diverse group of clients. They range in age from 6 to 60. I specialize in adolescents and trauma. I have also worked with depression, anxiety, personal relationships, parenting problems, addictions, emotional abuse, and physical trauma. I utilize the person centered approach and make the client's best interest the center of all therapy. I promote a mutually respectful therapeutic environment in regards to sexuality and religion. I have worked with LBGQT populations along with adoption and foster parent populations. My approach combines cognitive behavioral therapy, reality therapy, and motivational interviewing. I focus on what the client feels is the problem and help them understand how to work through and deal with others while working on themselves. I ensure the treatment plan and sessions are mutually agreed upon throughout the entire duration of therapy. I have a flexible schedule and can see clients late evenings and weekends.

I hold a master's degree in Education and Counseling. I have spent 28 years in education and 7 years in clinical counseling. My clinical experience has introduced me to counseling with adults. I enjoy CBT and Choice theory as the clients become aware of chices and can talk out their next steps. So many times, we don't understand that we have all the tools we need to allow us to be successful in our jobs, our relationships, and our lives. By exploring clients' worldview and what strengths they already possess, they discover how to make choices that put them in control.
