Kathryn Heinzen
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, licensed in the states of Kansas and Wisconsin. I have been a practicing licensed therapist for 12 years. I have worked with a wide range of populations from children and adolescents to adults and geriatrics. I have worked with clients who have struggled with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, stress management, career challenges, and significant life changes. I am also a certified personal trainer and I have worked with clients struggling with weight loss and body image issues. I have experience working in several different settings including group homes, an inpatient psychiatric hospital, and an intensive outpatient hospital setting. What this means, is that I have worked with people at various points in their mental health journey. My counseling style is warm, compassionate, and supportive, but I will also challenge you to grow. I will meet you where are you at, actively listen to you, and help you set and achieve the goals that are important to you. I utilize several approaches in my practice, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, mindfulness, journaling, and positive psychology. It can be hard to reach out and seek help and I commend you for taking the first steps to make positive changes in your life. If you are ready to commit, I am ready to support and empower you to be successful. I look forward to working with you!

Hello! I am here for you, to listen and guide. What exactly does that mean? I understand the issues that you bring to our sessions are very important to you. You deserve to be heard. And in the process of listening to you, I intend to question and comment, giving you compassion, reflection, and the sum total of my expertise. That experience is broad and complex. I have a master's degree in Educational Psychology from The University of Wisconsin-- Milwaukee (1983) and am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Wisconsin. In August of 2014, I also earned a Certificate of Completion from The University of Wisconsin-- Madison, focused on the topic of Mental Health and the Older Adult. It was important to me to back up my experience with scientific evidence regarding the aging process. After teaching middle school students for 15 years, I discovered that the best part of the school day was counseling individuals after school! So I became a guidance counselor, working in the same school long enough to counsel the children of my former students. I progressed into in-home therapy, working with teens who had a "brush" with the law. Rather than put them in detention, a judge would send them back home, to the same school, but with a counselor (like me!) who worked with them in both the school setting as well as the home setting. I eventually worked with another organization that specialized in helping Medicaid families. They needed counseling in child rearing, budgeting, time management, and basic survival skills. My therapeutic style is eclectic, that is, I use a variety of techniques to reach the goals you, the client, set in the beginning of our relationship. I do more listening than speaking. I move as fast or as slowly as you choose. Hopefully, you will trust me enough to be honest with me, knowing I won't judge you or hurt you with my words. I believe that people can change. If you are ready, I would love to support you in your journey. It would be a privilege to work with you.

How do I know if online counseling is right for my family in Palmyra?
One of the potentially rewarding aspects of working with a therapist is the validation and active listening they can provide. Your friends and loved ones may also be available to listen, but you may feel that they may lack the skills to provide objective guidance. Counselors are trained to respond to various concerns, symptoms, and mental health conditions.
Therapists in your city can support you toward a healthier emotional state, regardless of your mental health, life concerns, or healing needs. While supporting individuals in developing healthier habits, another good benefit of Palmyra therapy is having an understanding, safe space with a non-judgmental party who can support you through challenging experiences.
Many people have sensitive topics that they may feel ashamed to discuss with their friends or partner. A therapist can help you confront these concerns and open up through unique methods of support. There are also many types of therapy, such as art therapy, where you may find you can express yourself through creativity instead of words with a psychotherapist.
With a lot of people in WI, therapists may be booked out with clients. Through the list of profiles above and others within BetterHelp's team, you may be able to find a psychologist within 24 to 48 hours. If you're searching to find a a nearby psychotherapist close to 53156 or the surrounding zip codes, consider others available through the BetterHelp site where you can schedule a session based on your and the therapist's schedule. Should I find a therapist or psychologist for therapy if I feel fine?
Some simply don't feel the need to see a psychologist. However, some people may avoid attending therapy due to stigma or preconceived notions of what it might entail. Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or specific condition. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback. A Palmyra licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.
Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find with a Palmyra counselor can be dependent on your process.
People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles that a counselor can help with.

Is mental health care and therapy with a therapist worth it?
Therapy with a licensed counselor is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. An experienced clinician can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health therapist has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based licensed clinician in Palmyra, Wisconsin can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.
Palmyra has many clinicians who practice person or client-centered individual therapy in-person and through online sessions to assist clients in their healing journey. If you opt into online therapy, you might also be able to meet with providers all over the United States and change easily at any time. Do therapists judge you in therapy sessions during telehealth appointments?
The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you.
