Sarah Heyn
Hi! My name is Sarah, and I am a clinical social worker licensed in Wisconsin. I have over four years of clinical counseling experience working in a community clinic and private Christian counseling office, in addition to two years of graduate internships at UW Hospital and VA Hospital in Madison. I have worked with adults experiencing many distressing symptoms including depression, anxiety, self-esteem, grief, relationship issues, parenting concerns, life transition challenges, ADHD, LGBTQ specific concerns, and alcohol and drug use. I am a respectful, strengths-based, client centered therapist. I strongly believe that my clients are the experts in their own lives. It is my goal to be a guide during a time when they may be overwhelmed with stressors or challenging symptoms. Together we will combine your personal strengths with tools from various therapies (including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Interpersonal Therapy) to create a treatment plan that is specific to your therapy goals. Before successful completion of therapy, you will have a positive action plan in place for responding to future stressors. Because a healthy work and family life balance is important for everyone, I "practice what I preach". I respond to messages left for me on this platform every Monday thru Friday business day until 2 p.m. Many of my clients have found it helpful to send a message in the evening or on Sunday, and I always respond to those messages first thing in the workday morning. I am also available to do live video or phone sessions between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m each business day. Finally, because online counseling is still a somewhat newer technology for many people, I want to always be clear and transparent about limitations to the platform. I am unable to write letters for clients to the courts, lawyers, or medical professionals. I can, however, talk with you about ways to advocate for yourself through these systems from the perspective of a therapist. YOU have taken a positive, first step in creating positive change in your life. Together we can take the next steps toward helping your reach your goal. I look forward to working with you!

I started as a therapist because I wanted to use the many experiences I have had in life to help others navigate their own. I am currently licensed in Wisconsin. In 2006, I earned a master's degree in criminal justice. Then, in 2013, I went back to school to get a master's degree in counseling. My client base consists of those who have experienced trauma, those who are survivors of domestic violence, and those with anxiety, depression, adjustment and relationship concerns, and addiction. I have worked with the homeless, the addicted, the abused, the abuser, the clergy, the parent, and countless others. The approaches I use in therapy depend on the person I am working with and the issues they are struggling with. Some issues need a more cognitive response, some a somatic-based response, and other a Biblical response. Still, others need a behavioral response, and others a solution-focused response. I think the reason I can help is because I have a wide array of life experiences, combined with a solid education, and laid back demeanor. My current clients often comment on how relaxed and easy to talk to I am; this is something I pride myself on. I also work hard to get to know my clients and their stories. I am in constant study to make sure I am informed and equipped to help.
Petrovnia McIntosh
Hello! My name is Petrovnia McIntosh. I am a a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in the state of Wisconsin and a Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist for Individuals (CCTS-I). I received my Masters in Social Work (MSW) at the University of Wisconsin- Madison- School of Social Work. I specialize in working with adults who have had long-term trauma in childhood. In my practice, I believe that all behaviors are fulfilling a purpose. My approach is based on psychodynamic theory, which means I look for patterns of thoughts and behaviors that have been influenced by the things we learned in childhood. Sometimes the behaviors result in consequences that may be negative or hurtful. During our sessions, I will help you explore those behaviors that you developed in order to adapted and survive the environment you grew up in. I strongly believe that this process needs to be non-judgmental. These behaviors, especially those we see as negative, played an important role of getting through difficult times. We will process what need the behavior was filling. Then we can begin to explore alternative behaviors to try and create a plan of action to try new behaviors. We will then process how those new actions helped or hinder you on your journey. In my practice, I focus on populations with multiple intersectionality- especially People of Color (POC), people in the LGBT*Q community (including those who are planning on gender affirming transitioning and/or surgery) and those who are diagnosed with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). My focus includes learning about the different forms of oppression, how systemic oppression impacts your life, internalized oppression and historical /generational trauma. All these come into play in your present day life whether we are aware of it or not. During therapy we will explore this and how it impacts you today. I look forward to working with you and helping you reach your goals!

Hello and welcome! Something in your life brought you here in your search for help. I want you to know that you’ve come to a good place. I know how it takes wisdom and courage to seek out counseling support. I want to help you explore what is possible for you. Each of us can tap into our resilience and creativity even during the most stressful of times. I know too that sometimes we just need someone to talk to, who can listen without judgement. I am here for that. Update on 9/1/2021. Hello. I am updating my profile and mentions of what I consider my skill set. A growing opinion in clinical psychology is that no particular intervention is better than any other, and that the most important predictor of therapeutic success is the quality of the therapeutic relationship. I agree with that predictor. I have found that the best combo within therapy is relational, narrative and somatic. Relational in that the basis of a successful therapeutic experience is dependent on a healthy, skillful and genuine relationship between the client and the therapist. A good match results in good therapy. The therapist must be rooted in principles, boundaries and have a relatable skill set. Compassion and a genuine interest in the client must be the primary motive for the therapist. And the client must feel a genuine connection with the therapist. Narrative in that through the client sharing of their story and experiences and practicing inquiry and attention they can heal and transform painful circumstances and negative habitual patterns. Narrative includes the stories and assumptions we tell ourselves, so those are also part of the inquiry. Somatic means the conversation and work is embodied. That the context always returns to and is understood through one’s physical-emotional experiences. CBT can be a branch of all these, especially when it comes to inquiry practices. Again, all this relies on a genuine and authentic relationship between the client and therapist. A necessary vulnerability and receptivity to oneself and the other. I have been engaging with people as a therapist for 40 years. And I am still as enthused and dedicated to this relationship. I continue to learn through my clients, as well as through attending various trainings and teachings. I am deeply grateful to work with you and believe that the therapeutic relationship can be a life-long benefit. (I always claim that my therapist saved my life. In truth, our relationship gave me the means to save myself). I have recently taken more training in somatic experiencing, awareness and breath practices that help with personal insight and well-being. I look forward to exploring these with you. However, you lead the sessions not me; our conversation and explorations are determined by you and what you are wanting to experience. Here is a little about me and how I would assist you: I have a Masters in Social Work and am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, with over 3 decades of working as a therapist both face-to-face and online. My therapeutic style involves helping you to gain personal insight, simple strategies, and tools that you can use immediately to make positive choices and movement in your life. I consider you the captain of the ship, where I am the navigator, so, – you tell me where you want to go and I come up with several ways for you to consider, to get where there. You will always direct the session; I am here to help you discover the best internal and outward route to take to get to where you want. I have also authored several books on living a healthy and fulfilling life, healing from trauma, and cognitive-behavioral approaches to well-being, where I introduce simple tools to living a fulfilling life. Much of my work is about living life from the inside out – and how our emotions, beliefs, past traumas and attitude influence our outward and present day experience. I also use an educational approach with references to other resources that may help you, such as books, movies, on-line resources. We don’t just sit and talk. I love to provide you with simple, usable tools wherever possible that help you between sessions. We can practice these together and then you can see how they may benefit you in your daily life. I rely on these same practices to help me live a fulfilling and healthy life too. I too have relied on therapy, books and mentors to get me through challenging times. Most importantly, we are going to make sure we are making progress on your therapeutic intentions that you have for yourself. In that way, we are in this together. You will experience a true connection to me as your therapist. I am here to guide you, encourage you, possibly even challenge you if I feel you are unknowingly allowing obstacles to stand in your way. I am licensed Professional Counselor & Clinical Social Worker in Wisconsin with over 30 years of professional counseling experience. I have experience in helping clients with Stress and Anxiety, Anger Management, Adjusting to being Divorced, and self-defeating behaviors that are getting in the way of your quality of life. I use a cognitive behavioral therapy approach with my clients. My focus is to help clients recognize how their thinking about life events and situations is causing their unhealthy response and negative feelings. This process of changing your thoughts patterns can be challenging as it will involve letting go of long-held beliefs. During your counseling sessions, you will probably recieve homework assignments to complete and new behaviors to try out. Your willingness to step out of your comfort zone and try new beliefs and different behaviors will impact how beneficial your counseling is for you. I look forward to working with you.

Each of us was reverently and wonderfully made! But over the course of life many of us have been wounded with injuries that eyes can't see--soul wounds. Those wounds may come from absent or unloving caregivers, bullying, abuse, trauma, neglect, hateful words, injuries or illness, substance abuse, lack of safety, abandonment, rejection, etc. There are many ways a person can be wounded. Those wounds don't just go away, and over time they cause problems in our behavior, thinking, feelings, relationships, families and workplaces. We wonder why this anxiety just won't go away, or why we've sabotaged yet another relationship. We get ugly with the people we love, or feel so out-of-control we don't know what to do. We have unexplained illness and ailments, and the treatments (physical and mental) seem never ending. Yes, these are all symptoms of soul wounds. You are amazing because you have found incredible ways to cope with the difficult and even terrible circumstances you've faced in life! And the good news is that you don't have to live with those wounds forever. Hi. I'm Leah, and I would love to embark on a journey of healing with you. Together we will engage in creative and life-changing interventions, activities and encounters that will help you heal the wounds in your soul, and discover (or rediscover!) the unique and amazing purpose for which you were created! You were meant for so much more, and I would be honored to help you unlock your potential and finally live life to the fullest. I'm going to be honest with you, this is hard work; maybe the hardest work you've ever had to do, but in the end it will all be worth it. What are you waiting for? Let's get started! I am a spiritually integrated therapist and adhere to the American Association of Christian Counseling Code of Ethics, which can be found here: https://www.aacc.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/AACC-Code-of-Ethics-Master-Document.pdf

It gives me absolute pleasure to allow God to use me to minister through counseling to help clients achieve their healing by providing a safe place for them to have a voice, and for me to listen, and accept them as they are without judgment. My counseling experience began when I started working with Veterans and their families, using clinically tested and evidenced-based interventions to help Veterans who were suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder readjust to civilian life. Since then I have helped to empower over 100 civilian and military couples, also individuals & families suffering from depression & anxiety. My approach is to integrate theory, spirituality and clinical knowledge to better understand, prevent and relieve psychologically and other dysfunctions by collaborating with clients to create a road map to help facilitate healthy changes and to increase their personal development.

I enjoy working with people to overcome challenges, live more intentional lives and achieve their goals. I am especially well versed in helping people to work through women's issues, relationship problems, grief, stress and trauma. My ideal client is open to new ideas, and views health through a multifaceted lense, exploring the interconnection between physical, mental and spiritual health (understanding that spirituality may or may not include organized religion). I am a therapist, yoga teacher and zumba instructor. My life is all about sharing health with people. I practice what I preach. I have studied mindfulness for many years in a variety of settings and pride myself on my ability to remain nonjudgmental. It is only when we are able to remain neutral that we can find clarity and solutions. I would welcome the opportunity to walk along side you in your journey of personal growth. I commend you for having the wisdom to recognize that you are ready for change and the courage to reach out and get started.

Is mental health care and therapy with a therapist worth it?
Therapy with a licensed counselor is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. An experienced clinician can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health therapist has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based licensed clinician in Tony, Wisconsin can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.
Tony has many clinicians who practice person or client-centered individual therapy in-person and through online sessions to assist clients in their healing journey. If you opt into online therapy, you might also be able to meet with providers all over the United States and change easily at any time. Many people struggling with anxiety and depression, substance abuse, body image issues, and more find therapists that are a good fit for them, feel supported, and gain further insight into their lives through internet-based therapy.
Do therapists judge you in therapy sessions during telehealth appointments?
The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you. You might consider changing counselors if you don't feel safe or respected.
