Hello and welcome to my profile! My name is Nicole Haggerty. First and foremost I am so glad that you have chosen to seek therapy. It's never an easy step to take, but you've done it and I hope that I can be here to help provide you the support and comfort you need as you work towards a better you and embark on your journey of healing. I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker. I have worked in the area of behavioral health since 2009. I began my career at a local Community Mental Health Center providing supportive counseling services, case management services, and crisis stabilization and intervention. In 2015 I graduated from West Virginia University with my Masters Degree in Social Work, shortly after I obtained my graduate license and began my journey providing therapy services. In 2016 I resigned my position at the CMHC and began working for a local Federally Qualified Health Center as a behavioral health therapist, and this is where I remain today. I finished my supervision in 2017 and obtained my independent clinical license at that time. Throughout my career, I have provided services to all ages. I have worked with individuals with depression, anxiety, relationship/marital issues, addictions, anger management, bipolar disorder, and trauma. I use a person-centered approach in treatment. This means I begin where you are and tailor the treatment approach to your needs while being sensitive to how your individual identities and lifestyle choices impact your experience. I primarily use evidence based techniques including cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused counseling. I truly believe that the most important part of a persons treatment is the therapeutic relationship that you build with your therapist. Knowing that you are able to talk to someone regarding your struggles without the fear of judgement, but still being able to have someone to be direct in an appropriate and professional manner is very comforting for many people. I am currently only offering messaging and live chat. A majority of my availability is in the evenings and on the weekends but I check messages at least once during each weekday. I know and understand how very difficult it can be to find a therapist that you are comfortable with. I would be honored to work with you and assist you through your current struggles!

Like many therapists, I came to this calling after many years of doing other things. Professionally, this meant translation (Russian to English), which taught me how to pop in and out of vastly different ways of looking at the world. There was also raising children, tending to a marriage and friendships, and falling in love with an artistic hobby, I have been a therapist for 20 years now. For most of those years, I worked at a community mental health clinic, where I worked with people from a huge variety of backgrounds and ways of experiencing the world. Many were very poor. Many were very sick, sometimes psychotic. I learned how to see reality through many different lenses and to join forces with my clients to make life better. After these decades, I think I have developed a fairly clear approach to helping others, which I will try to explain below. Life can be very confusing. When a person walks into a therapy room for the first time, they are often emotionally bruised and looking for some clarity about their world and their own responses to events and circumstances. It is a privilege for me as a therapist to help the people I work with to make sense of it all. I help my clients learn to listen to themselves with respect, compassion, and curiosity. People can develop this courageous curiosity when they learn to have faith that whatever they find out about themselves makes sense and is coming from a decent place. It is often difficult to cultivate the habit of validating one's own thoughts and feelings (especially if one has long experience of doing the opposite), but it is extremely rewarding as the changes begin to be noticeable.
