Hello and welcome to my profile! My name is Nicole Haggerty. First and foremost I am so glad that you have chosen to seek therapy. It's never an easy step to take, but you've done it and I hope that I can be here to help provide you the support and comfort you need as you work towards a better you and embark on your journey of healing. I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker. I have worked in the area of behavioral health since 2009. I began my career at a local Community Mental Health Center providing supportive counseling services, case management services, and crisis stabilization and intervention. In 2015 I graduated from West Virginia University with my Masters Degree in Social Work, shortly after I obtained my graduate license and began my journey providing therapy services. In 2016 I resigned my position at the CMHC and began working for a local Federally Qualified Health Center as a behavioral health therapist, and this is where I remain today. I finished my supervision in 2017 and obtained my independent clinical license at that time. Throughout my career, I have provided services to all ages. I have worked with individuals with depression, anxiety, relationship/marital issues, addictions, anger management, bipolar disorder, and trauma. I use a person-centered approach in treatment. This means I begin where you are and tailor the treatment approach to your needs while being sensitive to how your individual identities and lifestyle choices impact your experience. I primarily use evidence based techniques including cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused counseling. I truly believe that the most important part of a persons treatment is the therapeutic relationship that you build with your therapist. Knowing that you are able to talk to someone regarding your struggles without the fear of judgement, but still being able to have someone to be direct in an appropriate and professional manner is very comforting for many people. I am currently only offering messaging and live chat. A majority of my availability is in the evenings and on the weekends but I check messages at least once during each weekday. I know and understand how very difficult it can be to find a therapist that you are comfortable with. I would be honored to work with you and assist you through your current struggles!

I am a New York State Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with over 16 years of clinical experience serving diverse populations in various agency, private practice, and medical settings. I am primarily a Narrative Therapist and use principles from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to inform my work with clients. I believe that one of the central tasks of one's life is to make meaning out of experience, regardless of whether that experience is perceived to be "good" or "bad." How we feel about our life's path depends a great deal on the stories we tell ourselves about our past and our future. Even though these elements of past and future are important, how we feel about ourselves in the present, and in fact our ability to be willingly present with whatever circumstances come up for us, is a powerful predictor of feelings of competence and well-being. Many times we struggle "against" our own experience, causing needless suffering for ourselves and even for those around us. In my experience, the only prerequisite for meaningful change is a willingness to believe that it can be possible. Even if you question whether you're willing to believe this, I believe that we can work together to influence factors that ultimately lead to willingness and a meaningful excursion into a change process. In my therapeutic process, we are partners - you're the expert on you, and I bring the Narrative, Psychodynamic, and ACT focus to train different lenses on your situation, all with respect and compassion, and without advancing an agenda of "shoulds." If you're courageous about digging into the rich material of your inner life (even if you're anxious about it too), we'll be a good fit.
