I have been working with Prof. Starr for 2 years now. First, I needed help coping with childhood trauma issues. She was able to offer me a sympathetic ear, recommended reading, and techniques to learn mindfulness as well as self care. We discussed issues like narcissism, boundary setting, and radical self care. Unfortunately, during this period of self help, I found myself in the middle of a divorce. I sought Prof. Starr's wisdom and guidance again as I navigated a new chapter of my life I was completely unprepared for. Her soft spoken, logical, positive guidance is an integral part of my ability to move forward and carve out a new and mentally healthy future for myself.

Do you really want to change your life? Then look no further. This therapist can help you. It will not be easy. She will make you see issues that you did not even realize were there. She has a remarkable ability to cut through the crap and get to the core of the issue. You have to do the work. And the work, by the way, is in your life not in the ‘betterhelp’ chat room. She will always show up for you. She will support and encourage you and she will challenge and push you. It’s wonderful and it’s painful. It works and your life is worth the investment. I trust her and I do not trust humans easily. I can tell her anything (and have) and I know, for real, she does not judge. What a gift that is. It has not been an easy road yet I have had the best traveling companion I could have wished for. No words do justice to the gratitude I feel for this therapist. Thank you Prof. Valerie Starr for everything.

Written on Apr 23, 2018 after therapy with Valerie for 1 year and 4 months on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, relationship, family, and trauma and abuse
Professor Starr has been a helping hand for a couple years now. My sessions can be sporadic, but she's always been patient. Other counselors I've spoken to have either made the conversation about what I think I did wrong and what I think would have been a better option, but Starr has always kept the conversation about what I would like to work on NOW, or what I can do to be happier NOW. If I went a long time without checking in, she would let me know she was around if I needed anything, but that she hoped my absence meant I was doing well. She is an excellent listener who always has a kind word to share if you're feeling down. I always felt heard, and that's really important. Thank you so much for your time and your help!

I have seen other therapists in person in the past, and they weren't helpful. This time I came to the site in a moment when I felt I was close to falling in a deep depression. Prof. Starr she was nice, warm, she was there for me and always replied quickly (I have a tendency of writing very long messages, but she would always go through them and get back as soon as possible). Even on the days I would expect her to be taking some time off, resting or similar, I would get a reply from her.
She helped me through very hard times. She did not criticize my situation or me. I would definitely recommend her. I still have a lot to work on, but I'm more optimistic about the future and working to make it better. Excellent work. Excellent therapist. Excellent person. Thanks Prof. Starr.

She's great. Valerie is responsive to needs, and stays focused on the patient. For me, we developed a specific plan for dealing with issues and have just been going through step by step. She did this simply because I asked. Valerie uses a variety of methods to assist me, and I would highly recommend her.

Prof. Starr has been patient with my correspondence, and respectfully inquired when it has been a while since I last wrote. So far we have just talked about my concerns and some measures I can take to begin living more free from anxiety, but it is a good feeling to know I have someone to write to when needed, and she is always prompt with her responses, even when I am not!

As a counselor myself, I was pretty skeptical
of online counseling, but since I didn't have a counselor to see, I thought I would give this try.
I have been truly impressed withProfessor Starr. She is understanding, caring, and
knowledgeable. Her responses have been
so helpful to me. In addition to being a warm and caring "ear" in times of crisis, she also recommends practical coping skills that I can apply to my everyday life.

Professor Starr is one amazing person. Warm, energetic, intuitive, professional with a characteristic which has winners (directed, self-confident, reasonable in decision-making and what is particularly adorned is that she does not give up easily). On her magically way she creates the illusion that she's present in every moment to your life and always ready to offer you a piece that is missing or to pick up scattered pieces and merge them together.
She very quickly responds, and frequency of communication is directed to the needs of the client.
The client is not walking wallet. Her client is personality, to whom she is genuinely dedicated.
Thanks to her I could resolve my personal dilemmas, and I think that will drastically affect the quality of my life.
I'm sure that her work effects will last longer than a period in which she will be my therapist, which is the only indicator of the success of therapy. Great job. Thank you, Proff. Starr.
