About me

Hello! My name is Veronica Cavazos and I am a licensed professional counselor. I have worked in mental health for the past 14 years and have practiced as a therapist for 7. My experience in mental health has primarily been with community health clinics, however I did spend some time as a therapist in a local psychiatric hospital. I am trained and certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and find it to be the most helpful and useful when working with patients of all ages. The goal-oriented approach of CBT helps to keep individuals focused on what they want to achieve. The approach is not just about how we feel but how we think; directing those negative thoughts in a direction where we can achieve a goal can be empowering. I find having useful tools and handouts helps individuals see their struggles a little more clearly. This can help them to focus on areas of improvement and catching where they can redirect themselves. The strategies of CBT which I find most helpful include, identification, practice of skills and techniques, setting attainable goals, and problem solving. Strategies that can be used even after therapy has been completed. For me CBT is most useful because it can be utilized as a short-term therapy approach and it is structured; helpful to therapist and clients. In my years of working in the field the age range I have worked with spans from a child as young as 3 and the parents to individuals of the elderly age. Although I enjoy working with individuals of all ages, I feeling I am most comfortable with teen to adult aged individuals. The issues I have experience working with include depression, anxiety, relationship and marriage issues, parenting issues, career challenges and trauma.

I consider myself to be a caring person as is my approach and style with counseling. CBT allow for the patient and the therapist to work together and I feels it allow us to get to know each other as well. I don't present to be all knowing and like to share experiences and techniques that have helped me along the way in my journey. My goal is to help you recognize your strengths to allow you to see how to over come your difficulties.

It takes courage to ask for help and sometimes more to look for it. I praise you for reaching out and I hope we can work together to achieve your goals. CBT is a team effort, I hope as a team we can make positive things happen.

My current availability is Friday, Saturday and Monday from 9am - 1pm. Would you like to schedule an appointment?
