When looking for a therapist, Escondido, CA can be a better bet than many mid-size cities. In a large state, with a large population, there is more help available in the mental health field than in other more rural areas. The challenge, however, can be in finding the right type of therapy, and the right therapist for your own personal needs. There are a number of evidence-based psychotherapy options, but they are not equally effective across the board at treating different mental health challenges. What you need in a therapist may not be available nearby, or they may not be taking new patients.
Online therapy can be a solution. Online therapy platform BetterHelp offers access to over 30,000 mental health practitioners with professional experience in many counseling styles and specialization in everything from art therapy to anger management. By filling out an online questionnaire, BetterHelp will match you to a licensed clinical psychologist that meets your personal needs. And it can be important to feel confident that the person providing therapy understands you, so if you feel the need to change therapists, you can do so at no additional cost.
Online therapy can also be helpful for people with busy lives. Online sessions can fit into any schedule, and with video chat, phone, and text messaging options, you can talk to your therapist from the comfort of your own home or office. And for those who may not feel comfortable meeting in-person for therapy, BetterHelp can be a way to get the help you need in a less stressful space.
If you live in the Escondido area and have been thinking about therapy for any reason, whether to treat anxiety, find out more about psychological testing, to process traumatic past experiences, or to prioritize personal growth, reach out to BetterHelp to get matched to a therapist with a California license who can help get you started on your wellness journey.

Welcome and thank you for taking the time to read my profile page. It has been my aspiration and commitment through my work life to collaborate with those seeking help and together make every effort to understand what is causing the suffering and in doing so to find some relief from the pain. I have been a practicing Buddhist for many years, and I meditate daily. I love that His Holiness the Dalai Lama said, “Kindness is my religion," because we all need it, we all benefit from it when we give it and receive it and without it life is just harder and lonelier. Buddhism informs my life and therefore my work. It has helped bring humility and compassion to my life and work. I believe that the answers to each person’s suffering lies within themselves. Most work involves clearing the clouds that mask the liberation in each of us. My work life has played out in two quite different areas of care. The first was a county hospital, and the second a private practice, both in San Francisco. I worked for 21 years as a social work supervisor in a busy outpatient HIV clinic with 2,800 patients. Motivational Interviewing was the most effective type of counseling to use with the population we worked with. In the other setting, I had a small psychodynamic self-psychology informed psychotherapy practice, working with individuals and couples. Both settings offered me the opportunity to discover, explore and develop different skills as I encountered the vast diversity of human experience, where pain, trauma, and resilience came together as a gift to be tended with care, love, and compassion. At the hospital AIDS clinic, we were initially faced with dying patients so much of the work involved just being with the dying. As fewer patients died when the medications improved, we were then faced with issues of severe addiction, trauma, depression, and a population who had experienced ongoing racism, homophobia, poverty, and homelessness. At my private practice, I met with clients who presented also with addiction issues and in addition those with relationship problems, impact of homophobia, body image issues, self-harm, trauma, and abuse. I could never have imagined such a career when I started out. Now I feel deep appreciation and gratitude to all the clients and patients I served on this path. To all those who shaped my career, and taught me how to be a social worker and therapist through their kind and generous feedback, which at times let me know how much I meant to them, and at other times how I missed an opportunity to be empathic. I hope we get a chance to meet and explore whatever issues are of most concern to you and together work to clear the clouds and find relief. Thank you again for your kind attention.

I am a University of Southern California results-driven graduate working as an LCSW, who specializes in mental health, including military mental health, and who challenges clients to work toward healing and self-sufficiency while emphasizing their personal strengths and milestones. I have been practicing as a therapist in California for 8 years, working with incarcerated, adult males. I specialize in the provision of evidenced-based treatment for a range of psychological difficulties and disorders, including depression, anxiety, low self-esteem/poor self-image, adjustment concerns, and family stress. I utilize a blend of cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal process and brief solution-oriented approaches to problems in therapy. I believe that the key to effective treatment begins with the quality of the relationship and connection between a therapist and client. I bring with me a combination of life experience which includes being a military spouse growing up in a military family and raising a child with special needs along with my years of experience working with incarcerated individuals and assisting those patients with the daily challenges they endure. I offer an intuitive ability to connect with people facing many types of challenges.

Some examples of what I have been able to support clients with include: stress and anxiety, coping with grief and loss, identity development, coping with life changes, compassion fatigue, mental health issues associated with being an injured athlete, sports psychology, Autism Spectrum Disorder, school-based counseling, and much more.
