Jacques-Paul Barbour
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and a graduate of Cambridge College, where I earned my M.Ed. in Mental Health Counseling and Marriage & Family Therapy in 2002. Since then, I’ve worked in a variety of clinical settings, including private practice providing individual and couples counseling, as well as serving as a crisis clinician in the Emergency Department. I have also worked as an adjunct faculty member at both community colleges and four-year institutions in the Boston area, teaching undergraduate courses in Psychology and Human Services, including Crisis Intervention, Counseling Practice and Policy, Research Methods, and Psychology of Personality. I generally become deeply vested in the mental health and overall well-being of my clients. My therapeutic approach is solution-focused, and I strive to create a space where clients feel safe to open up, share their thoughts and feelings, and work collaboratively toward practical, meaningful goals. I recognize that discussing intimacy—whether emotional or physical—can be difficult, and I offer a respectful, nonjudgmental environment where those conversations can take place comfortably and at your pace. I enjoy working with individuals from all walks of life, including those navigating men’s health concerns, relationship issues, LGBTQ+ identity and sexuality, porn addiction, immigration stressors, and cancer-related emotional health. My goal is to provide a safe, affirming, and empowering environment where clients feel supported, challenged, and understood. In addition to English, I am fluent in Arabic (Lebanese dialect), which allows me to offer culturally responsive care to a diverse range of clients.

I have a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology, and I'm licensed as a mental health counselor in Massachusetts. I have a very friendly, laid-back personality and am always eager to help and use a lot of humor in my general approach; however, I am also very comfortable working through serious and difficult subjects in a calm, supportive way. I'm a very happy, positive person and can always find a silver lining in almost any situation! I’ve been in the human services field since 2011, and my experience is very diverse. I have a lot of experience with substance abuse, depressive and anxiety disorders, PTSD, and ADHD. Additionally, I have experience with domestic violence, the Department of Children and Families (DCF), foster care regulations, and the Massachusetts legal system. My therapeutic approach pulls from several different types of therapy, and though I'm mostly based in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I'm also able to utilize different approaches and techniques as needed. I am very open and welcoming to feedback, as well as flexible, so I always encourage people to share what they want and need while we're working together so that I have a chance to help or adjust accordingly. I’ve also worked with clients of all ages from all kinds of ethnicities, religions, and backgrounds. Once we build a positive relationship with open and honest communication, I am confident I can help and support you in reaching your goals! If you're not familiar with counseling, a great way to think of it is having a warm, welcoming place to discuss any thought or problem you've been dealing with without having to worry about judgment, pressure, being misunderstood, or not being heard. I will always work at your pace, so you'll never feel rushed, and we'll always focus on whatever issue you feel is most important at that moment. Remember, you know yourself better than anyone else ever could, so I will never assume that I know what's best. I also welcome any feedback you might have for me on how I can better help you. My job is to listen, support, and provide you with the tools to be able to manage your feelings, your life, and help you accomplish the things you hope to achieve!

Hi. I have quite an extensive work history in the social service field all leading to my present and most rewarding position as an Independent Clinical Social Worker/Therapist. All my years of being in this field has given me the opportunity to work with a very diverse population, including the LGBTQIA community. I particularly enjoy working with people who struggle with interpersonal conflict whether it is with self, a friend, spouse/partner, professionals, parents, children, teachers/professor’s, etc., which all can be very difficult to maneuver through at times. These conflicts can cause immense anxiety, depression, confusion, sometimes leading to substance use and other issues/behaviors that you may want to address. My treatment approach is varied and includes a humanistic one of acceptance allowing for a building of trust and collaboration between us as well as evidence based practices of cognitive behavioral techniques, psycho-dynamic therapy, and motivational interviewing. "While there's life, there's hope" I look forward to hearing from you!
