Something's wrong and you may or may not know why. Either way, you've come here and you're reading this because you need to make a change. Whether you are experiencing depression, anxiety, issues with self-doubt/self-confidence, existential difficulties, difficulties with relationships, or maybe life is great but you'd like it to be better by getting to deeper life issues, I am at your service. I'm looking forward to meeting you and getting to know you better. Let's walk your path together and create the life you want. I have an eclectic style, utilizing CBT/DBT, motivational interviewing, psychoanalysis, and mindfulness-based treatment modalities. No matter what, my aim is to meet you where you are. I work well with many different kinds of people and have worked with people of many different cultures and abilities/disabilities. Although it is not a requirement, spirituality/spiritual practice can be incorporated into our sessions. I am open to suggestion, if needed, and if requested, can provide spiritual guidance, especially regarding regular practice. Belief is not a requirement, and yet that too is something I am comfortable helping you process.

I earned a Master of Social Work degree from Columbia University in New York and have over 20 years of experience as a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in a home hospice program. I worked with patients and families with a wide range of concerns that included grief, anxiety, depression, and relationship issues. I genuinely want to know and understand you and will listen to your story with heart and empathy while validating your feelings and experiences. Our sessions will have an interactive conversational quality while you control the pace and focus of our work. Realizing that no two people are alike, I tailor our conversation and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. My holistic approach combines motivational interviewing, person-centered, acceptance and commitment, and cognitive behavioral therapies that encourage self-exploration, self-discovery, and acceptance. I am committed to providing respect in a warm, comfortable and nonjudgmental atmosphere. It takes great courage to ask for help; this is where counseling begins. I honor your bravery and your decision to find your joy. I am dedicated to helping you when you are ready.

My passion is helping hurting people regain their lives, sense of direction, and wellness. I assist clients in discovering the roots of their present-day issues and work to foster healthy self-perceptions and relationships. When people experience trauma, pain, or mental illness in their lives, it can feel difficult to cope, let alone function. My path to becoming a psychologist was a clear one for me; I always had a desire to help people in distress. If someone was upset, I seemed to know it (even without a word) and wanted to do something. I worked as a professor for about seven years early on in my career but preferred working one-on-one with people in private practice. Starting counseling can be challenging. Talking about trauma, flaws, and imperfections is sometimes not what we want to do. However, when we've been hurt by people and circumstances, we need someone to talk to. I believe counseling is a wonderful place for people to finally work through issues and problems that have been bothering them. I am nonjudgmental and feel comfortable letting a client lead in sessions if we are making good progress. I am a stickler for confidentiality because, without that, no one would want to come to therapy. I focus on creating a meaningful and safe working relationship where clients can talk about their history as well as what is going on in the moment. I take an eclectic approach depending on the reasons for referral. I offer EMDR as one modality for treating trauma, and also have experience in providing Christian counseling.
