“Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself” -Jalaluddin Rumi I admire your decision to pursue change and the courage to ask for help with the journey. Thank you for sharing some of your personal information and therefore let me take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Glen Briggs and I am a New York State Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I graduated from Syracuse University with a Master of Social Work degree and have over 30 years of experience practicing community behavioral health in Buffalo. I have counseled individuals with a myriad of problems, including the full range of mental health conditions and often these individuals have had concurrent addictions or physical health challenges. The people I have worked with come from a broad range of ethnic, geographic and economic backgrounds. Working within the settings of mental health and addiction clinics, as well as a co-occurring continuing day treatment program; I have provided individual therapy, group counseling, psycho-educational groups, couples counseling, family therapy and crisis phone counseling. The utilization of online counseling in its various forms interests me as a new means to connect with individuals in need who may otherwise not seek therapy. As you read through these various counselor profiles, you may find yourself overwhelmed by all the different therapies and approaches being described, leaving you to wonder what might be best for you. Research shows that therapy works and the particular type of therapy provided isn’t as important as what is called the “therapeutic alliance”. The therapeutic alliance refers to the quality and strength of the collaborative relationship between the client and therapist, where there is agreement on goals, methods to be used, the role of the therapist and preferences of the client. To use an analogy, there are many ways to get to your desired destination but the means of transportation you choose, depends on the preferences you find most important (ex. fastest route, most scenic, least hectic). So as you go about choosing a therapist, my recommendation would be to not get caught up on the theoretical orientation the person utilizes but focus more on how they like to conduct their therapy sessions, areas of interest and whether their communication style seems like it might be a good fit for you and the things you value most. As one might expect of someone with over 30 years of experience, I have developed an eclectic approach to therapy with less reliance on theoretical concepts and more emphasis on solution-focused strategies that develop problem-solving and coping skills. While I draw a fair amount from Cognitive-Behavior Therapy, I elicit ongoing consumer feedback and collaboration, to inform the approaches to which the individual will be most responsive. I have been told that my non-judgmental style and use of humor, engages people, as they find me easy to relate to, respectful and sincere in my efforts to help individuals facilitate their desired change and improve their overall quality of life. I am a licensed professional with over 10 years of experience in social service and clinical fields. I have worked with children, adolescents and adults in a variety of settings: schools, jails, in-home, in-office and online. My approach is person-centered and solution-focused. No two people are the same, and as such, responses to different treatment approaches and modalities may differ. Therefore, I meet you where you are and work with you to determine what will work best to achieve desired outcomes. I believe we are all powerfully equipped to improve our overall wellbeing.

Victor Rose
Hey, I'm Victor! I am a strength-based, solution-focused clinical social worker, experienced working with children, adolescents, adults, and families. I have worked with diverse populations including people affected by substance use, survivors of domestic violence, children and families involved with the child welfare system (including juvenile justice), adults involved in the criminal justice system, LGBT youth and adults, and unstably housed adults. My work with these different populations included anger management, parenting training, developing cognitive and behavioral skills for depression and anxiety, trauma focused counseling, relapse prevention, and resolving family problems. Coming from a strengths based perspective, I primarily utilized a solution-focused approach to my work. Talking about the problems can feeling relieving, but I believe focusing on our resiliency and strengths to find solutions to our problems is equally important. I also utilized the cognitive behavioral approach because problems can cause negative thinking and developing adaptive strategies to manage distress. Entering counseling is not an easy process – I know! But like our physical health, our mental health must be stable if we are to reach self-actualization and our fullest potential. While we do the work necessary for you to grow and heal, I offer a supportive space to you to speak your truth. I prioritize your concerns for each session with a goal of giving you the tools to move forward.

Zalman (Samuel) Nelson
Hi, I'm Zalman. Great to meet you. So you're looking for a therapist? That's awesome. It takes courage to be here and you clearly have it! As for me, I'm a therapist with over 15 years of online therapy work: phone/video calls, text. It’s a passion of mine to use digital tools to help people: learn the emotional life skills they need to handle feelings, validate themselves, learn from emotional triggers, improve confidence and communication, and upgrade all of their relationships. And by adding inner child healing to the work, we get to the core of the issues. That way you get more effective, faster-achieved, and longer-lasting results that you'll see soon after you start...not after months. Results that you'll learn how to self-maintain and continue to develop. The goal is for you to fire me as soon as possible because you gained the knowledge, insight, tools, and skills to manage your own emotions and navigate the situations and relationships you encounter each day. My training includes a Master's Degree in Social Work from the Wurzweiler School of Social Work, where I focused on Addictions treatment and did field placement work with an Inpatient Addiction Recovery center and the 12-Step community. Along with spiritual learning and a soulful background, I see much effectiveness from drawing upon and blending a broad range of tools, approaches, techniques, and philosophies that unite to provide what clients uniquely need in order to thrive, heal, grow, find happiness and success and confidence, and stand on their own two feet. Learn more about me online and on social media. Or sign up today and we'll get to work :)
