Hello. I know life can at times feel overwhelming and difficult to navigate on your own. I am so happy that you are taking the step to begin working through whatever concerns you may have. When we meet, I hope that you will find a safe place where we can explore these concerns and develop a plan that will have you living your best life. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with over 15 years of counseling experience. I have worked with individuals presenting with a wide range of concerns. I have extensive experience working with individuals with addiction and with their loved ones, with individuals who have experienced trauma, and with families in conflict. I have worked with individuals struggling with life transitions such as divorce, returning to the workforce and career change. I have counseled in mental health, addiction treatment, and criminal justice settings as well as my own private practice My counseling philosophy is that YOU are the expert of your own life. My approach is integrative, incorporating different therapeutic techniques to make sure that your specific concern is addressed in the way most effective for you. Each person is unique and brings his or her own history making it impossible to utilize only one or two approaches to therapy. People respond differently to styles of counseling. Our work together will always be person (you)- centered and strength-based, because, again, I truly believe that you have what it takes to succeed. My role is to guide and support you in building the skills and confidence necessary to live your best life. I meet each client where you are and build on your strengths and resources. My style is not always “easy”, I will sometimes push you past your comfort zone, but I will always be empathetic and patient and put you first. Oftentimes, clients aren't aware of what is holding them back and keeping them stuck in unhealthy patterns and as a therapist, I can aid in identifying those things. Together, we can undo false belief systems and unhealthy habits. Seeking therapy is the first step in that process. I look forward to meeting you and to begin working together!

"I will look for the flowers by the side of the road; I will laugh and love and be strong. I will try to lighten another’s load this day as I fare along". --MARY S. EDGAR Hello! Welcome to BetterHelp! My name is Jen and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC, #004782) and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP). I have over 18 years of experience providing both mental health and addictions therapy to individuals, couples, families, and groups. My Master’s degree is in Community Mental Health Counseling, Addictions Counseling, and Marriage and Family Therapy (2009), and I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Family Studies (2006). I have worked in multiple settings, including shelters, community mental health centers, schools, and private practices. Since becoming a counselor, clients, such as yourself, have come to me for a lot of different things, including depression, anxiety, trauma (particularly in the areas of childhood abuse, domestic violence, religious trauma, and first responder and military trauma), family and social relationships, self-esteem, and substance abuse. My therapeutic approach is mainly from family systems theory, which summed up says “we are not islands”. We are influenced by the world, or the “systems” around us starting from birth (and even before). These systems influence how we see the world and how we make decisions. When things happen to us (good or bad), our system shapes how it affects us and what our reaction turns out to be. I also “borrow” concepts from other theories, such as taking unhealthy beliefs about oneself and changing them into healthier patterns to reduce negative feelings, providing supports, a quick solutions-focused treatment (when it fits the goal), mindfulness and hands-on activities, and emotions regulation techniques. I am also EMDRIA-trained in EMDR, specialized for telehealth, and will provide EMDR treatment to clients found to be appropriate and motivated. I see counseling as a didactic relationship, or in other words, a journey we take together. You are the “expert” of you. Your individualized counseling experience should be focused on what you want and your goals. My job is to help “guide” or “lead” you in achieving those goals, while you continue to actively participate and do your best to reach your goals. I will support you as you do so. It’s like we build a house together. I am responsible for the frame and structure of the house; while you get to fill the rest of it in, make it look the way you want it to, and in the end, turn it into the home you want it to look like. Starting counseling can produce negative feelings, such as worry or fear; but part of the journey we go on is to work on processing those feelings together right from the start. I want to provide a safe environment for you that is warm, respectful, trauma-informed, and meets your individual needs. I look forward to meeting you should I get to do that. Thank you for taking the time to look at my page!

Hello! My name is Gail and I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and I have over 15 years of practice in the field of counseling individuals with a variety of issues. I have worked in a variety of settings to include working in Disaster Relief, Crisis Intervention, Corrections Based, Sexual Assault, Special Needs/Autism, Mental Health and Addictions, Child Advocacy, and Trauma, and various relationship issues and Post Traumatic Stress. I obtained my degree in Community and School Counseling as well as to gain my License in Mental Health Counseling in Vermont and New York and have practiced in both. I have also had a variety of certifications and training's over the years, that have graced me with the ability to work with individuals who suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Alzheimers/Dementia, Traumatic Brain Injuries, Intellectual Disabilities, and currently issues surrounding the pandemic. My approach to counseling is that all individuals at some point can use an ear, a sounding board to work out an issue. Some issues may be bigger than others, some may appear bigger to one than another, but everyone can benefit from someone to listen and help work through that issue with, without judgement. I would be honored to lend an ear and help assist you in working out what is troubling you.

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with over 15 years of counseling experience in a variety of clinical settings. I have both a Bachelors and Masters degree in Psychology from Loyola University in Maryland and am licensed to practice in NY. It is wonderful that you have taken this step towards improving your happiness and fulfillment, and I look forward to helping you on your journey. Though I have a psychodynamic background, my approach is client centered and incorporates principles of CBT. It is so easy to feel stuck in our own heads and behavior patterns, and taking the time to work through them, without feeling judged, can be an integral part of reducing anxiety, improving mood and changing behaviors. Everyone has unique needs and goals for therapy, so I believe in tailoring my clinical approach to every situation. Whether you choose to work with me or with any of the other qualified counselors available on this site, I hope you find help you need to move forward!
