My name is Rachel Davies and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in New York with 7+ years of experience working intensely with clients dealing with a wide array of concerns including anger management, depression, anxiety, trauma, attachment, relationship issues, and parenting issues. I have worked in a multitude of different environments including outpatient clinics, private practice, and home based therapy within the community. My style of therapy is warm and inviting. I also use humor and transparency with clients when appropriate. It is important to me that you feel comfortable and safe in therapy and building a strong therapeutic alliance is important to positive outcomes of therapy. My approach combines Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Person-Centered Therapy. I believe that you know yourself better than anyone and it is my job to meet you where you are at in your process. We will work together to create a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs. I enjoy and feel honored to be a part of someone’s personal experiences. This is the way I like to approach my sessions – as a team, addressing challenges together to become free from judgment, criticism, and pain. I believe in creating a space where we can have difficult conversations, work on resolving issues and collaborate on treatment plans that are tailored to your personal needs and experiences. Change is not easy, but acknowledging that you want more for yourself is always the first step to creating change in your life. If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you. What you work on in therapy needs to be brought into your everyday life in order to see the change you are looking for. I have listed a couple of resources that I have found to be helpful if you struggle with following: Boundaries: "Set Boundaries, Find Peace" by Nedra Glover Tawwab Self Sabotage: "The Mountain Is You" by Brianna West Forming/ Breaking Habits: "Atomic Habits" by James Clear I look forward to working with you.

30 years offering treatment

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to view my profile. I am Janet Wise-Thomas, a Licensed NYS Clinical Social Worker who has been working for over 30 years with individuals with chronic illnesses and who have suffered many forms of psychological and physical trauma. My work with young adults to seniors who struggled with variety of presenting issues, including anxiety, depression, relationship and family issues, community violence and gender identity. I am sensitive and respectful for multi/cross-cultural factors, and trained others on cultural competency. In the end, it is about building therapeutic relationship with you that is compassionate, warmth and in-tune with your needs. My therapeutic approach draws from many disciplines, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness and Solution-Focused Therapy. I am a strong believer in collaborating with my clients to help them create and accomplish their goals. Whether it is dealing with symptoms of depression or anxiety, or getting back to normalcy after experiencing trauma and/or going through a life crisis. Over the years, I have been privileged to work with many individuals and families looking to increase their overall stability and find joy and purpose in their lives. I do not have a “one size fits all” approach. Each individual or family constellation has specific needs, and my coaching and counseling reflects the importance of tuning into their concerns. Let’s talk about how I can help you in your journey to a better and healthier you! In addition, I have undergone intensive training in Pastoral Counseling through Fordham University’s School of Religion and Religious Studies. My training and experiences included offering grief and crisis counseling in hospital settings such as the Emergency Room and Intensive Care Unit. In the community, I provided pastoral care counseling to members at The Riverside Church in the City of New York. In these unprecedented times of disproportionate loss and grief, I have the skill set of empathy and compassion to help you as you grieve the loss of love ones, especially when you were not able to say goodbye. I believe that you work with a person in mind, body and spirit. Outside of my work as a therapist, I am a licensed fitness instructor who teaches yoga, Enerchi (a form of Tai Chi) and cardio-fitness (including Cardio Drumming) to persons of all ages. You are unique and you were created to do good things in this world for yourself and others. You are taking the steps to develop your potential! I welcome the opportunity to work with you and it is an honor to be your guide through your healing process.

A Brief Introduction to Rosie Pettway, LCSW My social work career began long before I actually earned the degree. It began during my transition from corporate paralegal to elementary substitute teacher in the NYC Public School System. Teaching had placed me in a position to witness firsthand the deep emotional needs of children, which were being neglected and unmet by a system that promised nurturance, support and protection. I noticed the absence of much needed school based social workers. There was only one assigned to that particular school and she was overburdened with duties related to IEP’s for those children identified as having special educational needs. Coupled with (1) my desire to bridge the gap between strengthening mental health resources to children/families/teachers and (2) the physical and emotional trauma related to 911, I knew my path would lead me to becoming a clinical social worker. A total revelation to me! With my heart leading, I applied for social work school the next year and was accepted for the term beginning August 2002. In much the same way I felt called to the field of social work, I also felt called to working with the aging. As I sat next to the chairs of patients receiving their dialysis treatments, I heard stories similar to the ones I’d heard in my work with children – histories of unacknowledged, unresolved trauma they’d been carrying/dragging across the lifespan: generalized anxiety and fear, immigration status concerns, systemic racism, sexual orientation, physical violence, teenage pregnancies, forced marriages, incest/rape/sexual abuse, partner violence, common feelings of unworthiness – unwanted and unloved, and stigmas related to learning disorders and mental health diagnoses. The main difference between the two populations is that the aging adults had carried their burdens and distress over a much longer period. Over lifetimes, and now many are finding themselves existing in a society where their needs are undervalued, thus unprotected. It is my belief that within each of us resides an inner child, still longing for that never received attention (to be seen, to be heard), and still acting out to his/her own self-detriment, often manifesting chronic pain, illness and disease. Armed with this knowledge and now an older person myself, this presents an opportunity for me to participate and assist in the totality of healing for this population – mentally, emotionally and physically, including the child within, bringing unity, integration, stability and peace with Self-Love as the overarching goal. I began my social work career working directly with the youth; and in working with the adult aging population, I continue to touch the youth. For me, this is the best of both worlds. In this, I am fully grateful and satisfied.
