With the Internet having so much information, many people think it is easy to research their problems and find online tools to help them. What I have found over the years is that when people do this, they tend to work in isolation with no objective person to hear them and make sure they use the tools they found. This is why it is so important to have a therapist help you in your process of self-improvement. So if you feel overwhelmed or unfulfilled, your online search has brought you to the right place. I can help you with emotional issues such as self-esteem, depression, anxiety, anger, and stress. I also help you with other areas of your life that become affected by these issues such as relationships, communication, parenting, work or your education. I am comfortable and have experience working with people of all faiths and cultures as well as being an LGBTQQIA (also known as "sexual minority") affirming therapist. My counseling style includes Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness to help people make the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. CBT involves learning about the issues like depression or self-esteem and completing exercises to learn your current mindset and how to change it. Mindfulness is related and is about being aware of yourself and living in the present moment as well as being focused on positive goals. Using these two strategies helps you to stay focused and adds accountability to prevent you from slipping back into old habits. Clients leave sessions with clarity on who they are, what they want, and how to get it, stress-free. My purpose is to help you stop surviving and start living! Still not sure if this is right for you? Take a look at the testimonials below to see what others have said about our work together. I have over 20 years of experience in social work as a therapist, researcher, teacher, and trainer. I have worked in a variety of settings including inpatient treatment, outpatient treatment, K-12 public schools, as well as colleges and universities. I also founded The SWEET Network, LLC (Supporting Women to Empower and Enhance Themselves): a counseling service that provides individual and couples therapy, specializing in women of color and trauma. My goal is to provide you with simple tools to apply to everyday life.

“Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself” -Jalaluddin Rumi I admire your decision to pursue change and the courage to ask for help with the journey. Thank you for sharing some of your personal information and therefore let me take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Glen Briggs and I am a New York State Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I graduated from Syracuse University with a Master of Social Work degree and have over 30 years of experience practicing community behavioral health in Buffalo. I have counseled individuals with a myriad of problems, including the full range of mental health conditions and often these individuals have had concurrent addictions or physical health challenges. The people I have worked with come from a broad range of ethnic, geographic and economic backgrounds. Working within the settings of mental health and addiction clinics, as well as a co-occurring continuing day treatment program; I have provided individual therapy, group counseling, psycho-educational groups, couples counseling, family therapy and crisis phone counseling. The utilization of online counseling in its various forms interests me as a new means to connect with individuals in need who may otherwise not seek therapy. As you read through these various counselor profiles, you may find yourself overwhelmed by all the different therapies and approaches being described, leaving you to wonder what might be best for you. Research shows that therapy works and the particular type of therapy provided isn’t as important as what is called the “therapeutic alliance”. The therapeutic alliance refers to the quality and strength of the collaborative relationship between the client and therapist, where there is agreement on goals, methods to be used, the role of the therapist and preferences of the client. To use an analogy, there are many ways to get to your desired destination but the means of transportation you choose, depends on the preferences you find most important (ex. fastest route, most scenic, least hectic). So as you go about choosing a therapist, my recommendation would be to not get caught up on the theoretical orientation the person utilizes but focus more on how they like to conduct their therapy sessions, areas of interest and whether their communication style seems like it might be a good fit for you and the things you value most. As one might expect of someone with over 30 years of experience, I have developed an eclectic approach to therapy with less reliance on theoretical concepts and more emphasis on solution-focused strategies that develop problem-solving and coping skills. While I draw a fair amount from Cognitive-Behavior Therapy, I elicit ongoing consumer feedback and collaboration, to inform the approaches to which the individual will be most responsive. I have been told that my non-judgmental style and use of humor, engages people, as they find me easy to relate to, respectful and sincere in my efforts to help individuals facilitate their desired change and improve their overall quality of life. Janita Ramar
Hi there! My name is Janita Ramar and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with experience working with individuals with a host of mental health diagnoses including (depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorders) as well as stress-related difficulties, trauma-related issues, and substance use disorders. The stigma associated with obtaining mental health treatment can be discouraging at times, so I applaud you for finding the strength to seek help and focus on YOU! My main focus during the initial stages of therapy is establishing a therapeutic relationship which is based on empathy and trust, then working toward collaborating and creating goals based on the client’s needs/preference. I encourage clients to partake in their process of healing and growth while having the platform to share thoughts/feelings freely without fear of judgment. I find it essential to discuss therapeutic techniques and approaches with clients in order to enable them to engage and begin to establish ownership of their treatment. I operate from the stance that a therapeutic alliance that encompasses honesty, openness, and unconditional positive regard is key in promoting progress in a client’s treatment process. My approach in assisting clients is strength-based, person-centered, as well as solution-focused to name a few. I find it is essential to meet a client where he or she is at and assist them in processing and deciding what they hope to focus on. Being a source of support, acceptance, and trust are qualities that I strongly value and contribute to the counseling relationship. I am passionate about assisting clients with growing, healing, and ultimately bettering themselves and leading fulfilling lives. I believe that the process of change is largely person-based and levels of motivation play a large role in regulating change. I strongly believe that each client has the ability to overcome obstacles and is able to progress greatly with the development/utilization of coping skills, and having empathetic support from a dedicated therapist which I hope to be for you. You have already taken ownership of your therapeutic process by starting here! I would be honored to assist you in your road to developing a healthy and happier YOU!

I am an individual and family therapist licensed ( LCSW) in New York State. I have 14 years of experience working for agencies and schools along with my own private practice. My experience ranges from working in preventive services with children and their families to counseling individuals in an adult mental health day program. I also had a contract with a NY public school system to support student needs. Much of my private practice involved working with adults who came for support for issues such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, eating disorders, relationship issues and parenting concerns. I have also worked with individuals who have experienced post traumatic stress disorder, sexual abuse, emotional abuse and neglect. I received my Masters degree at Fordham University in Tarrytown, NY where I received clinical training in individual counseling and family systems. I often use a cognitive-behavioral approach with my clients. Additionally, I have experience with and am open to other therapeutic methods such as humanistic and integrative therapy. Each client has their own story to tell and I support people in making meaning out of their own narrative. Since each person I work with comes with a unique history, challenges and reasons for seeking support; I create individual treatment plans with input from each client. These plans are adjusted as their needs change along with their own life experiences and transitions. I will take my cues from you, as we work together on goals that best suit your needs at any given point in time. Trust is a vital part of the client-therapist relationship. I follow the ethics of my profession which include the dignity and worth of each human being, and the importance of integrity. This means strictly adhering to client-therapist confidentiality. I do my utmost to create a safe space for my clients to share their thoughts and feelings. Finally, as people work on personal growth, I emphasize using mindfulness to appreciate the here and now and enjoying the present. For some this may mean meditation, while others feel most at peace in nature. You, the client, decides what has meaning in your life. I look forward to supporting you in achieving the personal growth you seek using the strengths you already possess .
